Vs. Mode - Mario vs. OlimarThe scene opens high above a beautiful land, filled with crystal clear water, green grass, and pipes galore. Everywhere you turn, there are spectacular sights to see. Some of them include a go-kart track, tennis courts, an 18-hole golf course, and a gorgeous castle in the middle of it all. The camera zooms downward and into a stadium, where the seats are filled to capacity. Some of the spectators look fairly odd, resembling mushrooms and turtles, but all of them are excited as the fireworks go off, signaling the start of an anticipated event. "We are live on Pay-Per-Play, coming to you from Royal Stadium, where the GameFAQs Great Character Battle continues!" The camera pans back to the familiar announcing duo. "Hello, once again, to all viewers throughout the multiverse! My name is Brock, and she's CT's Lucca! Welcome to Vs. Mode." "Today marks the day when the South Division begins its battles to see who moves on and has a chance to take the title. Without a doubt, the South is up for grabs as three of last year's Final Four are in this one region. Add in a few more wildcards, and who knows what can happen!" "We should see some tough fights, and maybe even a few upsets, so sit back and enjoy. Before we go to our first match of the day, we'd like to introduce the lovely lady who helped construct this stadium, Princess Peach Toadstool!" Brock ogles Peach as she delicately sits in an extra chair next to Lucca. "I am delighted to be here." "That makes two of us," Lucca derisively says while glancing back at Brock. Seeing that he has been rendered useless, Lucca presses on, "So, Your Highness, would you mind if I asked a few questions, for the viewers at home?" "Sure!" the princess cheerfully replies. She doesn't see Lucca's brief snicker. "To begin, how long has your relationship with Mario been?" "Oh, wow. It's been so long. I would have to say around 18 years." "That's a long time to have a boyfriend." "Oh, Mario's not my boyfriend. He's just a friend." Lucca raises an eyebrow. "Just a friend? Are you sure?" "Yes." Peach's answer causes Lucca to blink. "That's one heck of a platonic relationship. Next, what do you usually do on a normal day?" The princess counts each activity with her gloved fingers, "There's golfing, tennis, go-kart racing, partying, occasional melees, and the odd kidnapping." "Not all in one day, I assume?" "No, but I usually do each one in a week." "That's quite a busy schedule. How do you feel about being snubbed from this year's tournament, when Princess Zelda made it into the field?" Peach's smile seems to fade for a moment before returning. "I am a little disappointed that I did not receive an invitation, but I can always challenge Zelda to a ladies-only match after the GCB is over. Royalty has to stick together, so I wish her the best of luck." "Lastly, how do you think Mario will fare this year, when he was so close to being the champion last year?" "Mario did sulk for a little while, but he was back to his old self after our trip to Delfino Island. I believe that Mario will be this year's GCB champion." "Thanks for talking with us, Princess. We'll let you get to your royal suite to watch Mario's match." "Thank you, Lucca," Peach says as she rises and heads off. Lucca looks over to Brock to see him finally recovering from Peach's presence. "Brock, you're drooling." The breeder hastily wipes his mouth. "Sorry." Lucca sighs, "No problem. I've come to expect it." The classic 8-bit theme of Super Mario Brothers plays as the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom enters to a loud roar. "Here comes the man in the red overalls. He's saved the Princess of this land too many times to count, and he still has time for a slew of recreational pursuits. Mario is wearing one of his latest acquisitions, the FLUDD system. Will he wash away his first round opponent?" Mario jumps, with a sideways flip, into the ring. The Pikmin theme is heard as the diminutive Captain enters with one hundred of his Pikmin to raucous boos. "I think he can, literally. Captain Olimar is certainly small enough, and so is his miniature army. Seeing as Pikmin is Olimar's only weapon, they will be allowed to help the captain out. Multicolored and flowery, Pikmin can be very vicious creatures, capable of taking down comparatively huge foes." The captain and Pikmin scamper up a ramp to the ring. "While that may sound like a threat, Mario shouldn't have a problem getting to the second round." "Players, to your positions. Player 1, ready?" "Here we goooo!" Mario replies as he punches the air. "Player 2, ready?" Captain Olimar and all of his Pikmin nod their heads simultaneously. "Combatants ready. Raise force barriers. Match 17, Mario vs. Captain Olimar. 3, 2, 1... fight!" "Power's on; game's started! Olimar orders his Pikmin to charge at the relatively gigantic plumber. They may be small, but those Pikmin can pack a punch in a large group. The plumber is knee-deep in the critters, but he doesn't seem to be in any pain at all! Mario performs a spin jump, sending Pikmin all over the ring!" "Olimar is frantically trying to reorganize his troops, but Mario already has the FLUDD's nozzle aimed directly at him! The captain gets drenched from a short squirt of water, and so are a lot of his followers. Mario switches to the hover nozzle. He jumps up and completely soaks everything directly underneath him!" Brock yawns. "This should be over. The captain's troops are in complete disarray. Mario switches back to the single nozzle. He sets himself, and fires a full-powered blast, which floors Olimar. The captain doesn't look like he'll be getting up. Ref-Bot gives the count, and Mario walks away with an easy victory." "Winner: Mario." Mario gathers up Olimar and as many Pikmin as he can before some mushroom medics come to take them all away. "The captain put up as much fight as he could, but he was just no match for the powerhouse that is Mario," Lucca comments. "Coming up next is match between a plumber and a hedgehog, but Mario and Sonic have already fought in the first round! It's not exactly the clash everyone wants to see, but it will probably be as close as we get this year: a special match pitting Mario's dark counterpart against Sonic's dark counterpart.
