Tryout Fic #8: gotspork - Village Fic

Gordon Freeman was trying to remain calm. He had left the hotel in the middle of the night because he had needed a little fresh air. Now he found himself surrounded by the very same aliens he thought he had ousted back in his home dimension. Luckily Gordon had somehow had the foresight to wear his HEV suit equipped with his usual assortment of weapons for this stroll.

Something is strange. How did I know to be so prepared?

Not stopping to think for very long, Gordon immediately pounced into action, exhibiting the impressive combat skills he had honed in his recent involvement in the Black Mesa Incident. He strafed around the room dispatching Headcrabs and Bullsquids with relative ease. Checking his HEV power level he noticed that he was still at 95%, but the aliens were closing in and he knew that he would run out of ammo soon enough.

"You call that shooting, kid?" a voice said.

Looking around Gordon noticed Snake leaning against a tree a few yards from his current predicament.

"Kid?! I'm just as old as you! And why are you just standing there in the shadows, come out here and help me!" Gordon replied angrily, but before Snake could give his response another wave of beings floated towards the group quickly but lazily. They appeared to be massive translucent jellyfish, but unlike jellyfish these creatures were floating in the air and were hungry for victims!

Those must be the 'Metroid' things Samus has been telling stories about

Before Gordon or Snake could even move the Metroids had attached themselves to everything that moved. Gordon's former alien menaces quickly fell before the Metroids' siphoning might. Snake was on his knees, and Gordon noticed his HEV suit's energy meter was quickly decreasing. As it hit zero he let out a piercing scream...

...and all went black. He was now alone in a dark corridor with glowing blue walls.

Where am I? What happened?

Gordon looked around. The only other thing present in the corridor with him was a line of giant white spheres. A man of science, Gordon kept his cool... until he heard an immense pounding that sounded as if it were closing in. He began running down the corridor and made a right down a branching path. This continued for some time with every turn revealing another corridor almost identical to the one he had came from. The pounding was closer than ever as Gordon noticed that his entire body had turned a strange shade of blue.

Then, he saw it. Turning a corner he was greeted with the terrifying sight of a giant yellow circle. It had an enormous wedge-shaped mouth that was the source of the pounding sound he had been hearing The... thing was intent on giving Gordon an introduction to its digestive system. Gordon let out another scream as he fell flatly out of his bed.

These nightmares have got to stop...

Gordon looked over at the clock. 11:30 AM.

**** it! I'm going to be late to work again.

Gordon realized that he was no longer working for Black Mesa, and that right now the only thing he would be missing out on with his narcolepsy was a few good hours of training. He walked down the hall to Jill's room to see if she wanted to pick up some lunch together at the cafeteria. After a few knocks on her door, no one answered. In his state of confusion, he had forgotten that she had already been eliminated.

She must already be there.

When Gordon arrived at the cafeteria he got his food, and after scanning the room and finding Jill not present he slid into the first empty seat he saw.

"Hey you can't sit here, nerd!" roared Bowser with a smirk. It was apparent that Gordon was not going to have a very good day.

"A-yeah, this is a no-a dork-a zone." sneered Wario as he slapped Gordon on the back. Gordon got up and left the cafeteria. He wasn't hungry anyway. On his way out Vercetti kicked him and yelled out a few obscenities, laughing in amusement. Sure enough Wario had placed a "KICK ME" sign on Gordon's back. Gordon looked at the ground embarrassed that he had fallen for the oldest trick in the book. Bullies never understood him. Now a fat, little man and an overgrown turtle had made a fool out of him.

Well, I might as well train. I have to do better this time around.

A few fighters had already been ousted from the tournament, and Gordon was determined not to be among those who were defeated in the first round. Approaching the target range, he took a stall next to Donkey Kong. Lacking any other long range weapons the ape was chucking giant barrels at the targets with relative ease. Gordon chuckled a little and began his own training.

----

Later, Gordon was satisfied that his marksmanship was still in top-notch shape. He had wanted to get some melee training in with his trusty crowbar, but the day's tournament was fast approaching and he didn't want to miss any of the action. He walked towards the arena and was joined by the rest of the contestants as the fight approached. It would be an interesting show...
