Tryout Fic #4: Dynasty3 - Mario vs. Olimar Preshow

A cold breeze blew through Mario's hair as he prepared to enter the arena. Goose bumps emerged on his arms, and a cool chill ran down his spine. Mario took a step onto the ceramic floor, and headed towards his dressing room. It was his first match... his first opportunity to show the contestants that he was a force to be reckoned with. Mario entered his locker room, and took his cap off.

"It's-a me, Mario," the plumber told himself loudly. "Why-a am I-a nervous? Last-a year I went-a to the finals! I am-a first seed-a. I will-a win," Mario tried to convince himself.

At the opposite side of the arena, Captain Olimar walked to his change room. Ever since he heard about a tournament where people from a wide variety of different dimensions compete in, he was eager to show the skills he wields. He is the general of a gigantic army of Pikmin. These strange creatures have many purposes, all of which depend on their skin colour.

Olimar flashed back to when he explained the Pikmin to Squall. The tall, young SeeD had proceeded to berate him. Olimar didn't understand why he was being called a "racist" or even what that word meant. He had just asked Squall what the benefits were of being his skin colour, when he was accused of being "prejudice" and "racist". Skin colour must have been an offensive subject to Squall, possibly because his colour was one of the weaker ones.

Olimar sighed as he sat down on the bench in his locker room. He knew his opponent would be a formidable one, because he had advanced to the finals the previous year. Other than that, though, Olimar knew nothing of this Mario character. He hadn't even met him outside of the arena. It wasn't because Olimar was an anti-social, it was because Olimar was to busy training his Pikmin to care about making new friends. Olimar focused once again, and prepared for battle.

----

Luigi entered Mario's locker room at a run, and quickly locked the door behind him. Tiny, little beads of sweat dripped down the side of his face. Mario would've been confused at why Luigi was in such a hurry, if it wasn't for Mario's heavy heart. Mario realized that he wasn't prepared for his match, and that all month he was too cocky to begin training. *BANG!* Something crashed into the locked door, almost throwing it off its hinges. *BANG!* Mario looked at Luigi, and realized for the first time that he was holding a yellow feather.

"Oi! Mama-mia, Luigi! What-a do you-a have there?"
"Ah, Mario! I-a thought that I could-a help you out for your-a match. I-a saw this yellow bird-a thing-a, and stole-a one of its-a feathers. I-a thought-a it was an even-a more magical feathers," Luigi managed to breathe out.
"Luigi! Mama-mia! Where'd-a you see this-a bird thing?"
"It-a was in the stables. I-a saw the Cloud-a fellow taking care of it-a. I-a thought it was the reason he-a was so powerful."

*BANG!* With that final hit, the giant chocobo rushed into the room. Luckily for the Italian plumbers, Cloud had arrived just in time. He wrestled his pet to the floor, and managed to calm it. "Kiweeeeeee!"

"Which one of you irritated my chocobo? You are very lucky a saw him running into the arena," Cloud questioned the brothers. Luigi slowly raised his hand, admitting his guilt. "Next time, ask me if you would like to see him. He is easily aggravated by anybody other than me. Ever since he ran away from a giant snake, he has been extremely cautious," with those final words, Cloud left.

"Mama-mia, Luigi! You-a could-a been hurt. What-a were you-a thinking? Now-a give me-a the feather," Mario took the feather and swallowed it. He tasted disgusting like all the other feathers, but this time he hadn't felt a change in him. It seems that it wasn't a magical feather after all. Luckily, Mario had his own stash of magical feathers, mushrooms, and stars hiding in his pockets. He finally realized that he didn't need to be prepared, because he was going to cheat!
