Tryout Fic #1: Solid Chihuahua - Village Fic

The vastness of it was overwhelming. It seemed unreal to a human oberserver, not unlike a painting. It seemed less a real and tangible part of the world than an untouchable backdrop for the events of the human race. A colorful haze of swirling shapes and constantly changing colors, the sky had recently decided to color itself a very non-threatening pink. Its no wonder early man categorized the Heavens as a place separate from Earth, even though it is actually several miles of gasses and condensed humidity held to the Earth by an invisible tether. Instead, it appears as something not of this world, something Gods placed in front of the humans simply to make the world more beautiful. Raiden felt it was only describable in one word.

"Wow..." he breathed as he continued to gaze upward.

"Incredible, isn't it?" interrupting a somewhat harsh yet womanly voice. "You know," Samus Aran continued, "I often take the opportunity to stare at the sky whenever I visit a new planet. Each world's atmosphere is unique."

Raiden diverted his attention from the heavens and took a moment to examine the bounty hunter who had approached him unnoticed. With the exception of her head, she was clad in her usual orange battle armor, created by one of the wisest and most advanced species in the galaxy. She would be very attractive if not for the menacing presence of her weapon. In fact, Raiden found it quite a turn-off.

"Didn't notice you," he grunted.

"I'd noticed." Samus was not one to mettle in another's affairs, especially those emotional in nature. However, she knew that Raiden had not moved from that spot in over two hours. As a human, she showed compassion for this young man and felt an almost motherly duty to help. Besides, she wanted him to at least provide competition for the living legend, Solid Snake. A warrior like herself knew the value of seeing one's opponents in action. "Something on your mind?"

"Does it concern you?" Raiden believed this is what Snake would say. He tried to act tough, but he knew that he longed for someone to listen to him. He had been considering this for some time. If someone were to address him, he had planned on acting indifferent at first, as to appear as if he did not want to share his feelings. But it was only a moment's pause before he decided to speak again. "Samus, you're a legend aren't you?"

"Some would say that," she responded, still unsure of what was bothering the young man, "I'll admit that I am fairly well-known."

"But do your exploits are great! You saves a galaxy from an alien infestation on multiple occasions on your own!" Raiden was near tears. He was never very good at hiding his emotions. "I was a pawn in some game, and I couldn't even do it by myself!"

Samus took a moment to survey the near-broken man before responding. He was on his knees ad pounding the ground with his fist. There were no tears running down his boyish face, but Samus could tell it was due to great effort on his part. "Well, that's one way to look at it, but the relevance of your actions is really up to y-"

"Bull****!" Raiden interrupted. "I knew you were just gonna spew the same crap that Snake does!! It's all bull****! Look how vast it is!" He motioned toward the sky, which had suddenly decided to change to dark blue. "Do you think anything we insects do actually matters?!"

Samus looked down upon Raiden, who was now breathing heavily, but she did not speak. She couldn't. In the silence she could hear the ambient sounds around the arena. As Raiden turned away in embarrassment and disgust, Samus took a moment to appreciate the summer breeze. He just doesn't understand how real it is. This is the world, and it always will be. The air surrounding the arena was filled with activity. In the distance owls could be heard awakening from their sleep. The blades of the warriors who practice into the night rang out and could be heard all across the facility. A man could be heard yelling loudly about a "greasy Italian" that had stolen his car. Mario and Luigi could be heard taking great offence. He must come to understand reality on his own. Samus walked away without uttering another word.
