Tryout EntriesNear the end of July, the Project was falling behind, so Sir Bormun and Furious J decided to hold tryouts for new authors to help out. Those who signed on were given battles, preshows and/or aftermaths to write up as samples; the applicants were then judged by how much they wrote, how well they wrote, and how well they fit in with the Project's style and continuity. Not every assigned fic was written, but more than a few were, and there were also several "village fics" (a.k.a. intermissions) submitted as extra references. Some of these entries were very impressive; see for yourself by checking out all sixteen submissions below. (Aeon Azuran and Solid Chihuahua were the winners of these tryouts, by the way, with honorable mentions given to gotspork and MyWorldIsSquare.)

Some entries might not be on time, while others might not be consistent with the project's world. But that doesn't mean they're not good fanfiction anyway. Here's some of the most notable unofficial entries:June 26th, 2003, by Seadragon76 - The contest's fighting game and FPS heroes form an alliance. Zelda vs. Lara, Pre-Match, by GotMiltank - Not the actual fight, but a rather tense meeting between the two characters. July 29th, 2003, by Furious J - The original background for the events of July 31st. A bit too much for the Project's world, but still a fun read. Deleted Scene from The Sweet Sixteen Party, by ThePyreThatBurns - An unofficial joke fic, of all things...but it was just too funny not to archive. Probably funnier if you follow the contest board, though. Prelude to the Rescue, by Jjukil - A quick bit before the long-awaited rescue attempt that ended up falling out of continuity. Crono vs Mario aftermath / Sephiroth vs Megaman, by ThePyreThatBurns - Yet another unoffical joke fic, recorded on impulse by yours truly. I was obliged to rate it lower than the Crono vs Mario joke fic (it didn't include Magus ^_~), but don't let that stop you. The Truth In Nightmares, by Cromage A Cloud/Sephiroth fic (......Stop looking at me like that), a one-night multi-dream sequence covering some of all-too-overlooked sections of the Final Fantasy VII. Probably better if you've played the game. This fic can literally fit in at any point in the storyline, since I kept it free of the main plot.
