"The Awakening"

Ryu walked calmly from the training center. He had been training vigorously for his match with Dante. Dante had been unpredictable, he had battled a martial arts master with his bare hands and come through the victor. Ryu would have to be especially careful with him, if he had so much power without his weapon's imagine what he could accomplish with them. Ryu entered the mansion, rode the elevator up to his floor, and returned to his room for a shower.

The cold water cascaded down the muscles on Ryu's back, and crashed down upon the large horizontal scar an unknown assailant had given Ryu as a prize for his defeat of Duke Nukem. The cold water seemed to irritate the scar, he reached back and felt it. It had raised almost two inches, it was beginning to resemble the scars he had given Sagat so long ago.

The scar worried Ryu, he had recieved many scars to his body during his many years of fighting, but his skin was strong and healed very rapidly, leaving him with little permanent damage to show for the many wounds. This scar was different, it was getting worse as the days progressed. It had been nearly a week since he had woken up in the medical center. The people there were the best he hadn't doubted them, but they had said that all irritation would be gone in two days, but it had gone from being an annoying nagging sensation to a painful burning one. He had shown them the scar four days after his match, and they had said that there was probably just poison on whatever blade was used in the attack. That the attacker probably wanted some extra insurance that you would die, but greatly underestimated his regenerative powers. Ryu knew that was wrong.

It took a great deal of skill to sneak up on Ryu. He had trained his body and his mind to pick up on the presence of fighters, and it would take an even greater warrior than he to be able to block that sense. Whoever did this to me didn't want me dead. Anyone who is able to shield his presence so, would have easily been capable of striking a major arterie. But why would someone want me to be injured but not dead? He though to himself. He still hadn't figured out who had given him blood, it wasn't Dante and the other silver haired man, Sephiroth, didn't seem like the types to give blood. He figured it just must've been a passing fan, after all Ryu was only human and only needed human blood.

Ryu emerged from the shower, dried off and put on a clean fighting gi, and left his room. He went to the elevator, as the door closed, he saw Cloud leave his room, see the closing elevator, and call out for Ryu to hold it. Ryu did. Cloud ran into the elevator and squeezed between the partially closed doors. "Thanks, Ryu," said Cloud. After a few moments of akward silence, Cloud tried to start a conversation, "So, 33 down, 30 to go, eh?"

"Yeah," said Ryu nodding, he looked over to Cloud and began to say something, but the moment he layed eyes on Cloud something happened. The scar on his back felt like it just lit on fire, and the fire from his scar coursed through his veins, enveloping his entire body with the burning. Ryu stood still, looking at Cloud, and trembling.

Cloud looked over at Ryu curiously, "Are....you...okay man?" Cloud's voice echoed in Ryu's brain and it exploded in the proverbial flame, all the emotions he tried so hard to suppress came bursting forward at terminal velocity. Anger, frustration, disappointment, sadness, pain, and hate. The hate began to dominate his mind. His eyes began to narrow, he clenched his fists. Suddenly he felt so much hate, so much desire to cause pain, all from looking at Cloud. He grinded his teeth, and began thinking of ways to hurt the spikey haired warrior. The elevator reached the bottom floor, and Cloud cautiously stepped off the elevator, making sure not to turn his back to Ryu. The elevator door closed behind him, and suddenly all the invisible flames scorching Ryu's soul were extinguished. He snapped back into his former self, and fell to his knees.

"What....was...that..." Ryu said gasping for breath. He began to search his thoughts for the part of his mind that had betrayed him. He found his memories of Akuma. The moment Akuma had brought out the evil in him, it had been that. The fire coursing through his brains, the unstoppable rage, it was his dark half, Evil Ryu. A voice penetrated his thoughts, I've awakened Ryu. Ryu cringed upon hearing the voice. I've awakened after so long, and I will require your body
