Preshow

The King of Rouges pandered about the locker room. He had chosen the blue moonstone to go on his dual cutlasses to give them a watery edge. Monkey's don't like water right? He thought to himself. He had done a lot of work on his spells and had most of them down, he was still a little shaky on the death spells, but he didn't want to kill his opponent, but he didn't really want to come in close either. I mean he had his cutlasses and lord knows when they fury things get dead, but I mean against an opponent as strong as DK, it would be best to stay back and cast spells on him.

Vercetti came into his locker room. Looked around and said, "****, what a dump, I'm sure as hell not warming up in this **** hole."

Vyse shook his head, "Hey, Tommy can I intrest you in a bar of mouth soap."

"Cute kid, you sound like my mom."

Vyse laughed at the crude gangster, "So, what brings you here to my......**** hole today."

"Just here to wish you luck kid.......I mean the rest of these goody good's can't appreciate a good thief when they see one. Or there too busy doing evil **** to even care."

"Thanks Tommy, but I'm fine, I've fought tough guy's before, Ramirez and Galcian were two of the best swordsmen from my world, and I took them on."

"Yeah, but you had help from your friends then.........I want you to take a little help from me this time." He reached be hind him and pulled out a rocket launcher.

"Wow.............thanks, but no thanks." Vyse said looking down to his weapons. "These are the only weapon's I'll need."

"Listen kid, you should reconsider, this baby, it'll knock that damn dirty ape back to the 20th century. It's a heat sinker he won't be able to dodge it."

"What if it locks on to the crowd instead, I can't take that chance." Tommy began to say something but then Vyse interuppted him, "Listen Tommy, I really appreciate you trying to help me out, that means a lot coming from an insenstive guy like yourself, but I'm gonna win on my own terms, I'm gonna take care of my own buisness."

Tommy smiled at the young Air Pirate and said, "If you don't, who will. Well good luck kid."

"Thanks Tommy."

The Battle

Donkey Kong's eyes met with the glass eyepatch and normal eye of Vyse the Blue Rogue.

Both had very different plans for this match. But though Vyse was predicted to win by many of the contest's participants... DK had a trick up his sleeve.

He wasn't as stupid as he looked. And Vyse, brimming with overconfidence, just expected the monkey to rush at him and attempt to pummel him with his fists. He was wrong on that front.

A gun sounded from above. Like clockwork, the fight began.

Holding his twin bright red cutlasses, infused with the power of Nasr's red moon, up in front of him, Vyse rushed at the monkey. He brought the cutlass in his right hand up, and then sliced down at the Kong with a downward arc.

Donkey Kong sidestepped the blow, and knocked Vyse a few feet to the right of the Kong with his powerful fist. The look of shock was plain on Vyse's face as he flew away from Donkey Kong. The Blue Rogue had expected some fighting back... But not actually smart moves on the part of Donkey Kong.

C'mon, Vyse thought to himself, as he drew himself up onto his feet again, wincing at a dull pain in his back. Easy win, here. Just like fightin that Larso Clan tough guy.

This time, when Vyse met eyes with Donkey Kong, Vyse had a confident smile on his face.

He still harbored no thoughts in his head that informed him that a loss was possible.

Donkey Kong just waited for him. The big monkey just stood there, silent, waiting for his opponent to make a move.

Alright, Kong, Vyse thought. I'll strike again.

"Still not doing anything? C'mon, Kong, you can't beat me by just standing there. Let me show you something."

Suddenly, the area around Vyse began to grow blue, and the same effect turned his cutlasses into a royal blue color.

This wasn't the moon stones working. It was Vyse.

Forcing the energy that he had created into his twin cutlasses, he jumped up, and slashed at DK. Once. Twice. Thrice.

"CUTLASS FURY!!!"

The sheer energy of Vyse's attack pushed Donkey Kong back into the wall, near the entrance. The Kong was bleeding hard from some of the cuts that Vyse had given him... But he wasn't done yet.

This surprised Vyse, actually. He hadn't expected the ape to survive one Cutlass Fury. But he was badly injured, and all Vyse needed was to finish him off.

Better use some magic. I don't want to kill the poor monkey.

But DK was far from a poor monkey. There had been a reason that he was lying against this certain wall.

Because there was something lying behind Donkey Kong's back. Something that he had hidden before the match.

His secret weapon.

And behind him, Mario whispered through the chainlink fence that separated the stadium from the floor...

"Time-a to go."

Donkey Kong picked himself up from the floor, quickly enough to alarm Vyse. With a grin on his face that was too wide for Vyse's liking, he grinned in Vyse's direction.

Vyse noticed that he had his hands behind his back. I wonder why he's not in a fighting... Uh oh.

From behind his back, DK revealed the coconut launcher, fully loaded.

He fired three coconuts straight, right at Vyse's stomach. They all hit, and Vyse was knocked to the ground, with the wind completely knocked out of him. Slowly, Donkey Kong walked over to Vyse, as Vyse tried valiantly to regain his breath, and his fighting ability.

The last thing Vyse saw was a wide grin on the monkey's face. Then, all went black.

With one punch, Donkey Kong had knocked out the Blue Rogue.

The crowd cheered, Mario, Luigi, DK's Kong family, and Yoshi the loudest among them.

Donkey Kong looked straight at Mario, who winked at him.

Good-a job.

Aftermath

The Mario brothers were happy with how the first round had ended.

Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi had been victorious. And now, Donkey Kong, the 4th of the Mario group of friends in the tournament, had also advanced to round 2. For people like Mario and Luigi... It was nice to have people around that you knew well. Especially when Wario had already lost his match.

Back at the mansion that night, the Mario brothers turned in, after some celebrating over at the Hero's Haunt with DK and Yoshi. Even Bowser had joined in.

As usual... The night lurkers of the contest were all that remained awake. Tommy Vercetti and Max Payne anxiously discussed their affairs by candlelight in the Hero's Haunt. The giant mansion where the contestants, now 35 in number, slept, also housed five first floor common rooms, which were a place to discuss events... If you wanted to avoid the Hero's Haunt, that is.

And with Tommy Vercetti and Max Payne up to their usual doings... Alucard thought it best to just stay in the mansion, and relax there.

As a vampire, Dracula's son obviously preferred the night to the day. This feeling was not shared by too many contestants, as most of them wanted their sleep, but Alucard really had no other choice. It was just his nature to be a creature of the night.

At times like now, Alucard would just sit in one of the cushioned chairs, close his eyes, and think. It was his only option at times like this... He didn't exactly have too many people that he was eager to discuss with at this competition, and for that matter, not too many of them were eager to discuss things with him.

Various people would join him from time to time, just to seek solitude. As much as Raziel did not respect Alucard, they had dwelled in the same darkened room of the mansion at times, as they just waited for something of interest to happen. They rarely talked... They were just quiet.

Sometimes, as odd as it sounded, even Donkey Kong would join the vampire at this time of night. Some nights... They'd just sit and think. Wait for the day to come. It was rare for Alucard to leave that room, during the nights. It was a way of his life... If you could call his vampire being a true life, to just lurk.

But tonight... He decided to take a walk.

He walked among the small island that was the contest grounds. Besides Resetti's shop, the mansion, the stadium, the traing center, and the Hero's Haunt... Not too much made up this little place that the contestants called home. So if you wanted to go somewhere, there were very little places you could go. But there was someone that if you were out walking, you would meet.

It was odd, in truth. Though Raziel was the one in the contest with the name of nightwalker... It seemed like it was his opponent that did most of the roaming.

Sephiroth rarely spoke to anyone, out here. Sometimes, when the participants least expected him, he'd spring out of the woodwork, and either give a little advice, or a little intimidation.

But most people had never seen him since his first day in the tournament's dimension.

Even Cloud.

But while Alucard and Sephiroth, the loners of this contest, were walking the grassy meadows of the tournament's home island... The Hero's Haunt still had two visitors.

"So, you worried bout your fight tomorrow, Vercetti?"

The mob boss gave a noncomittal grunt. Yes, he was worried. He didn't like to admit it, of course... But he didn't like not knowing his opponent.

Better a devil ya know than one ya don't.

Max smiled, seeing the internal stress within Vercetti.

"Tommy Vercetti, worried? God, I thought I'd have to pay to see this."

"**** off, Payne. What do you expect? It's not like I've fought magical creatures or robots before! Of course I'm a little unsettled! These guys ain't no human beings!"

"Hey, Vercetti. Cool. I beat a guy last year and this year, you can do this too. Plus, you'd better win... Are you going to force me to tag around with Solid Snake all day?"

"Oh, I didn't say I was going to lose, Payne."
