Preshow

If it was possible for a pink ball to be nervous, then it was certainly taking place here.

Kirby, the little pink puffball that was perhaps the most unique character in the the tournament, was pacing... Or, to be more precise, waddling, around his tiny "dressing" room.

Not that Kirby even needed a dressing room. Heck, he hadn't even needed to practice his skills for this match. Kirby's only real attack involved swallowing his opponents, taking their abilities, and beating them at their own game. If that didn't work... The little pink puffball knew he was sunk.

Kirby had preferred solitude, for the most part, in this tournament. After Pikachu had been eliminated, Kirby could communicate with no one in this tournament... Not that this had bothered him. He didn't really need company, as some of the other people in this tournament seemed to.

He was here to win. If you looked at Kirby, you didn't see a little guy that held a huge competitive drive inside him... But if you didn't see that drive, you weren't looking hard enough. Kirby wanted to win this tournament.

And luckily for him, no one had a clue about it. Ramza Beoulve was making the very same mistake that he had tried so hard to avoid when he had saved Ivalice from Glabados Church and the Zodiac Braves.

He was underestimating his opponent.

Maybe it was subconscious. Ramza had been telling himself for the whole tournament that Kirby was not someone to be taken lightly. But after he had fought the Zodiac Braves, the little pink puffball didn't look too imposing to Ramza.

Ramza still trained, thinking that he'd have a tough match ahead of him. But subconscious confidence can ruin any warrior.

And his conversation with the Koopa King, Bowser, hadn't been too helpful to taking his match seriously.

It had been yesterday. Ramza was doing some last minute training against the Gato the robot, which Crono had thoughtfully brought from home as a possible opponent for practice. Unseen to him, the great spiked Koopa had walked up to him just as Ramza landed the finishing blow on the huge robot.

"Bwahahahahahahaha!"

Ramza sighed. He hadn't had too many experiences with the giant koopa as of yet in this tournament... But he knew him by reputation, and by his chats with the other swordsman, Auron.

"What is it, Bowser."

"You've been training every day since the tournament began! All for a match against a pink puffball! Talk about a waste of time!"

Ramza was silent for a moment. In his soul, he felt that every fighter in the tournament was worthy, and would be a difficult opponent.

But...

Thoughts ran through his head sometimes. Thoughts that he was wasting his time training. Thoughts that this would be an easy win.

He was just lucky he had Auron there, to warn him about overconfidence. But the subconscious confidence was still there.

The Battle

Kirby walked out into the arena, the crowd roared, he was a fan favorite, even though a lot of people thought he was doomed, you couldn't help but love the little guy. <(^_^)> anyway, he sucked in some air and began to rise up high into the air. The crowd oo'd and aah'd at the flying marshmellow. Suddenly he pulled out a blade from god knows where and came flying back to the ground. Sending an blast wave off in the direction of the strike, leaving a small scar in the center of the field. The crowd burst in to an approving applause as Kirby whirled around taking his bows.

Ramza had been watching from the other side of the field, "Wow," he whispered, truly impressed. Who'd have thought that such a small being could have so much power. He looked over at the Gate Keeper who was nodding toward the arena, "Oh Right," said Ramza feeling kind of embarassed. He came out to not quite as loud a fan applause, but half of the audience seemed to be nodding their heads in approval. He was the favorite here today, but not by much.

Ramza began to grid off the arena in his mind. hmmmmm he thought, no terrain or obstacles of any kind, good for offense bad for defense, it'll be harder to run away if I need to. Still I'm faster than him, I'd say I can move 5 squares for his 3. The bell rang and Ramza drew his sword and charged his opponent, who sucked in air and took to the sky. Gotcha Ramza thought, his training as a lancer had given him an amazing Vertical Jump. He sucked in his breath and leaped into the sky preparing to slice Kirby in two. Kirby looked down at the incoming Ramza and panicked, suddenly an idea crossed his mind. He expelled all of the wind from his body, and hardened his skin, suddenly he took the form of a rock and plummeted to the earth.

Ramza who was still going up as the pink blob went down simled, too easy, I'll just smash him on the way down it'll do double the damage. Still though I wouldn't want to kill him he thought, turning his sword sideways. Ramza had not noticed the consistency change of Kirby

With a yell he swung the flat side of his sword onto the pink target. A loud ring echoed throughout the stadium. The sword had struck the pink rock and the shock had gone right back into Ramza's hands. Ramza began to shake the vibrations pulling him around the arena like a rag doll.

After a few moments he finally stopped shaking. He turned around to regain the offensive but was suddenly pulled toward Kirby by a huge gust of wind. He was sucked into the pink warrior's mouth only to be spit out again a few seconds later.

He got back up slowly wiped some of the Kirby juice off of his armor and turned around. Only to see kirby in armor, that somewhat resembled his, and holding an exact replica of Ramza's sword. Ramza slowly got to his feet, pretty confused by this turn of events. He looked at Kirby who was looking back at him, so, he has my equipment, but does he really have all my abilities? he thougth to himself. He was shortly answered.

He can't have all my abilities, I trained in so many different jobs he can't have all of them. His thoughts were interupted as Kirby pulled out a couple of Shuriken and began throwing them at Ramza. That's a ninja skill, he does have all my abities Ramza said taking off running. He looked over at Kirby who was matching him stride for stride, My attributes as well he thought ducking under another shuriken. Well if he want's to play ninja, that can be arranged.

Ramza pulled out his swords and several duplicates, and began to throw them at Kirby. Kirby's eyes widened as he, with difficulty, dodged all the swords. Kirby narrowed his eyes and then grabbed several spears, and began to throw them at Ramza. Ramza dodged the first two but was struck by the second one in the leg. "Argghh" he said wincing in pain. Kirby was coming up with another spear, ready to end the match. Oh, no what do I do? thought Ramza, Oh wait, I know suddenly Ramza snagged a dictionary and hurled it a Kirby. It hit Kirby square in the face and sent him flying to the other side of the arena.

Kirby got up staggering, the dictionary to the head had been a trememdous blow. Kirby was angry now, he wasn't used to not being able to beat people at their own game. He searched his new memory for a techinique that would win the match for him. He found it.

Ramza got up, pleased with himself. He quickly healed the wound to his legs and began to look around for Kirby. He looked over to find Kirby preparing some sort of spell. That was alright he figured he could take it and then have a free shot at Kirby who'd be vulnerable after he casted the spell. I mean I can easily withstand any spell other than.......Oh no he thought.

But he was right, Kirby casted Ultima to the suprise and glee of the crowd.

Kefka screamed in anger, "YOU NO GOOD CHEAT THATS MY MOVE!!!!!!"

But Kirby had casted it on Ramza. And Ramza hadn't defended. The spell hit him full force. Ramza went flying along the ground only stopped by the cement wall between the arena and the crowd. "Must....keep...fighting...." Ramza gasped just before he fell unconcious.

Kirby expelled the air in his body and returned to normal form. He ran to the center of the arena and began taking bows infront of the roaring crowds. He had won.

Aftermath

With what was left of their little group, MegaMan, Zero and Samus left the arena and began to walk back to the hotel.

"He was sooo cool!" MegaMan blurted. "He could use that guy's powers, just like me!"

"Just like you, eh? Thus fitting the very definition of cool." Zero remarked dryly. His own weaponry wasn't nearly as flexible as MegaMan's, Samus's or even Kirby's. But why improve on perfection?

"You saw what he could do! I bet he could do anything! I wonder if he's a robot too."

Samus laughed at that one. "I doubt it. But I have to wonder what someone like that would do against an opponent like your Mr. Resetti."

"Yeah, he probably couldn't blast him, just take his power. I've got a gun. He's got a sword like yours too though Zero."

Zero snorted. "I wouldn't get too attached to the little guy. He fights a vampire next round. You saw what that guy nearly did to Bomberman."

"Yeah..." MegaMan's voice trailed off. He looked at a little worried at the prospect of someone fighting Alucard again.

Samus still had to wonder at the robots. They all seemed more capable of expressing emotion than most of the humans at the tournament. Their personalities might be a little exaggerated, but they seemed so real.

"Well, I'm glad we're in different divisions from him anyway." Just like I'm glad I'm in a different division from both of you. Samus thought. The robots were good company, and avoided most human vices-but she knew that if it came down to a fight in the arena, she would beat them. Her nature wouldn't allow for anything less than giving it her best effort. But they were all in seperate divisions-and they would only meet up if they made the tournament semi-finals or better.

Zero shrugged. His saber rose slightly with the movement. "We don't have as much to worry about from the vampire. One of the advantages of being fully robotic... sorry Samus."

Samus chuckled. She knew the robots didn't have a real superiority complex, Zero was just trying to encourage MegaMan. They had finally reached her room-the first on their stop, and one of the closest to the exit.

"All right, see you guys later. Hopefully another good match tomorrow."

Samus had to remind herself that MegaMan still didn't have a guaranteed spot in the second round, and might not be sticking around as long as the rest of them. He had the last match in the first-but that was likely a formality, she was confident in what the little blue guy could do. Hopefully they'd be keeping her company for a while.

The two robots waved goodbye. "See you tomorrow."
