Vs. Mode
Several days after the contest started, GunMage, a fan of the Fanfiction Project, tried to join its writing team. Unfortunately, the team was full at the time, but that didn't stop GunMage--he started his own series instead. The well-written, more battle-centered Vs. Mode has since become an excellent companion to the project itself. (Sort of like the Dream Tournament to Bormun's UVR. ...and if there's anyone out there who gets that, I salute you.)
