BZZZZZZT! BZZZZZZZT! BZZZZZZZZZ- A gloved hand reached out to hit the alarm clock, turning it off. The source of the hand, Mario, slowly sat up. He groaned as he rubbed his head, still recovering from the effects of his hangover the night before. Maybe it wasn't-a such a good-a idea to hang with-a Vercetti last-a night, Mario thought.

The Italian plumber glanced over to the clock. Immediately, his half-closed eyes shot all the way open. "11:00 AM?!" he exclaimed. "I should-a have left for-a Zanzibar two hours ago!" Quickly, Mario leapt right out of bed, and literally jumped out of his pajamas and into his red shirt and overalls. Not having time to take a shower and brush his teeth, he grabbed his suitcase and ran right out the door, heading to the Delfino Plaza Hotel parking lot.

Once Mario arrived, he found something that further added to his troubles. His car was gone! Mario ran over to where his car was. Before he could yell out in anger and frustration, he found a note lying in his parking space. It was written very crudely. Mario picked it up and read it.

Dear mario,
Ive stolen ur car since i left mine at my castle!!! I hope u dont mine!

Mario crumbled up the note in his hand, and then yelled out several things that you would never have expected someone as friendly and kind-hearted as Mario to say. After letting out his frustration, he frantically looked around the parking lot. There has-a to be someone that-a is also-a late that-a can take-a me. Right then, Mario spotted none other than the Epoch, which Crono and Magus were currently getting in to.

----

"I can't believe we're this late," Magus said angrily as he sat down in the driver's seat. "We would have been there by now if someone didn't oversleep."

Crono blushed as he sat down in one of the passenger's seats. He already explained to Magus that he overslept because Lucca needed help getting her equipment ready to be transported to the Zanzibar Stadium, and he ended up staying up until 5:00 AM to do it.

"Well, let's hurr-"

"Crono! Magus! WAIT!"

"Oh, great..." Magus groaned. "It's that plumber..."

Mario arrived at the Epoch, panting for air after running as fast he could. He then explained his situation to the two. "So, will-a you give-a me a lift?" he asked.

Crono looked over to Magus, who was glaring at him. He then looked over to Mario, smiled, and nodded. Magus groaned yet again.

"Yay!" Mario happily exclaimed as he jumped into the seat next to Crono. "Thanks-a guys!"

"Well, as I was saying, let's hurry up," Magus said. With that, the dark wizard started working the dials, and the Epoch lifted up into the air. Right before the pod closed, the sound of a voice quickly yelling out "WaitIneedaridetoo!!!" was heard, and a blue blur raced into a spot between Crono and Mario as the pod closed.

"NO!" Magus yelled. "We can't have more than three passen-"

Before Magus could finish, the Epoch took off. But, instead of heading to Zanzibar, it flew through time, heading towards the future! Soon enough, the Wings of Time came to a stop, and the group found themselves over a large, dark patch of mist. They seemed to be in an area of nothingness for the most part, except for the large platform next to the Epoch.

"Heh heh, sorry guys," Sonic chuckled nervously. "I took a very long shower, and Knuckles has seemed to left without me. Say, where are we any way?"

Magus' eyebrow twitched, and he banged his head against the control panel. A sweatdrop ran down Crono's face as he turned and explained the End of Time to Mario and Sonic.

"Ohhhhhhh," Sonic responded. "Soooo... what now?"

"How-a are we going to-a get back if only-a three of us can-a travel through-a time?" Mario asked.

"Forget this," Magus calmly, yet angrily said. The wizard stood up and jumped out of the ship, and on to the steps of the main platform. "I'm taking the gate to Zanzibar. You can pilot those two goofballs there, Crono." With that, Magus floated off to the time gates.

"Geez, what's his problem?" Sonic asked, scratching his head.

Crono shrugged, crawled up to the driver's seat, and set the dial to 2003 A.D. Sonic took Crono's former seat, and looked over to Mario.

"So, it seems you two will be facing each other again next round," Sonic mentioned, grinning. Mario and Crono nodded. "How did your fight go last year, anyway? I had to stop Eggman again, and I ended up missing it."

"Well, it was-a very close," Mario started. "Crono was-a out of-a MP, and I was-a down to my last-a power-up, the Kuribo's Shoe. We-a charged at-a each other, and... well, it all-a becomes a blur from-a there. Do you remember what-a happened, Crono?" Crono shook his head as he started up the Epoch. "Well, somehow in-a there, I ended up-a winning. Maybe Link remembers what-a happened."

"Hmm... well, your fight better be an interesting one this year, because I ain't missing it this time!" Sonic said, giving a thumbs-up to the two.

"Oh, it-a will be," Mario responded, smiling. Crono smiled as well and nodded in agreement as the Epoch finally took off, this time heading to Zanzibar.
