Vs. Mode - Squall vs. LuigiAfter the incident with Ness, almost everyone was behind Squall to win. Most of the fighters were expecting Luigi to take out Squall anyway, but they figured they'd best let Squall know they were behind him. Squall was in the hallway on his way to his match as Gordon Freeman and Max Payne stopped him. The two gunmen walked over to Squall. "Hey, Squall, good luck taking out that scumbag, Luigi" Max said. "I know his type. He's just like the ones who attacked my family. No honor in them...but Squall, you beat that plumber good" "Hey Squall, don't worry about looking bad when you beat Luigi to death" Gordon said to Squall. "We'll make it look good by making HIM look even worse. We'll say that he got married to Waluigi to keep him in the country, and then got engaged to Daisy and Peach, which means that is an impudent, bisexual bigamist" Tidus and Knuckles, who were walking by and chatting a bit, stopped over at hearing this. Tidus looked over to the two curiously. "Who's an impudent, bisexual bigamist?" He asked curiously. "Uh...Sephiroth" Max quickly cut in before Gordon could answer. Tidus and Knuckles walked off whispering about what they were just told, and no doubt to tell their friends about this. "Now why'd you go and do that?" Asked Gordon. "Uh...popularity?" Max asked, grinning. His grin faded as he noticed Gordon's angry face. "Ah don't worry, you'll think of something else, right?" Gordon turned away from Max. "Well, Squall, you go get that child-beater" With that, the two of them left, before Squall even said a word. "Squall" Squall turned around to see Cloud and Jill standing nearby. Cloud continued to speak to him. "All right, this is what I got for you" He dropped a huge, black case, which hit the floor, making a rather loud crash. "Go on" Squall took out what was in the case, to reveal the beginning of a Gunblade, but much bigger than the handle of his normal Gunblade. Squall finished pulling it out, and at the end was a huge blade, only a little smaller than Cloud's Buster Sword. "It's called a Buster Gunblade" Cloud told Squall as he examined the large object. "I bought it from a shop a while back but didn't really have any use for it, as it's too small for me to use as a regular sword, and I'm not one for bullets" Squall was surprised that Cloud thought it was too small, as the blade of it was gigantic. Squall picked up the Buster Gunblade and held it to see if he could wield it well. Jill walked forward and handed Squall a small white box. Squall put down the Buster Gunblade and took the box from Jill. "It's a special kind of bullet, Siyput Bullets" Jill told Squall as he took out a pointed gold bullet that had a strangely squishy end, as Squall found out by touching it. "Their ends can be reshapen to fit into any gun. They harden fully when you apply a drop of this stuff" Jill reached into the box and took out a small bottle of green liquid. "Now that you got our stuff, you can take out Luigi easy, I'm sure of it" Cloud and Jill both smiled as Cloud told his friend this. "Well..." Squall said as he re-sheathed the massive Buster Gunblade back into its case. "Thanks but..." The dark-haired teenager looked down rather sadly. The guilt of this whole thing was starting to get to him. Everyone was against Luigi, and he would be at a disadvantage against Squall now, with the new weapons and support now with Squall. And Luigi never did a thing to Ness. Well, not in this tournament, anyway. "But what?" Jill asked. Squall simply sighed and shook his head. He stood up. "Never mind. Thanks for the stuff, but, I don't think I'll be using it quite yet. Maybe if I need to" "You gotta be kidding me, Squall!" Cloud walked over to Squall angrily. "We give you these gifts and all you say is that you're going to use it as a last resort?" "Yes, these aren't easy to come by, Squall" Jill added sternly. "We're trying to help you here. Be a little more grateful, please" Squall sighed. "It's just..." He hesitated. "Just that..." "Just that WHAT?" Cloud questioned. "Never mind" Squall stood up. "I'll see" He slung the case over his shoulder and walked off. Cloud sighed. "There's always been something not right with him. He can never accept help when he needs it. Oh well, if that's how he's going to be, then he might as well let himself lose" "Well, he might use it if he's losing bad" Jill replied. She turned to the door. "Well, come on, let's go. The match is going to be on soon" ---- Luigi was walking down the hall, Mario behind his right shoulder. The two were given loud, angry jeers. The two plumbers were shocked, it seemed that almost EVERYONE thought that they had beaten Ness. "Mario, Luigi" Came a cackling voice. The two stopped as they walked and turned around. They saw the familiar make-up and strange look of none other than Kefka, the deranged clown villain. "Kef-a-ka" Mario said. He stared down Kefka, with a look of great dislike towards him. "What-a do you want?" "You want credit for something you two did not do" Kefka replied. "You...did not attack the pathetic little Psychic-wannabe squirt and I know it. I know who would do that, you two are too goody-goody. You just wanted to cash in on fame for beating him up!" The Mario Brothers looked at each other, trying to figure out what the heck he was trying to say. "And I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE people who try to outdo my evil!" Kefka pouted. "Just you wait, in time, I'm going to pull the plug on you, and suddenly you won't have what you wanted. You won't be famous anymore, Mario and Luigi! I know you didn't do anything at all!" Mario and Luigi found themselves trying to keep in their laughter. "Sure-a, Kefka" Luigi snorted. "But thanks for believing us, Kefka" "Yes, yes" Kefka walked off, muttering to himself about the Mario Brothers. Luigi smiled, feeling a little better. "The clown-a made me feel-a better. Come on, let's-a go. Time-a for my fight" ---- "And we're back to Vs. Mode!" Announced an excited Lucca. "I find that it's going to be hard to top that amazing fight between Ganondorf and Magus, but these two are going to give us SOMETHING good!" "That's right Lucca, it's between Squall and Luigi" Brock added. "Coming into this, Luigi is heavily favored over Squall. However, after a round one incident, Luigi's built up quite the opposition due to the fact that apparently, Mario and Luigi ganged up on Ness outside of the party and attacked him. And shame on Luigi, he's a little kid! That'd be like Ash bringing out his Snorlax and Heracross to jump some kid who beat his Cyndaquil, or--" "Okay, Brock" Lucca interrupted. "Well, we have a special match going on. Squall and Luigi agreed to a half-and-half match. Luigi allowed Squall to use his own choice of stadium, and in return, Luigi's going to have a few personal touches added to it" Out of the ground came something that could hardly be described in words. A huge, towering metal place, with four or so circles on top of the one before it. A tower went up into the sky, connected to it a ring of black and white, with yellow inside. It was Balamb Garden. "Wow, that's awesome!" Brock said in awe. "And now what's going to happen next..." The middle section of the Balamb Garden suddenly fell below the stadium again. In place, two brown bridges rose, connected by a cable at the top. A green pipe appeared at the end of the bottom metal part, and at the other end and middle were two more. Several bricks floated in mid-air in perfect rows, with a few yellow blocks marked with question marks ('?'). "And it's the Balamb Garden, Mushroomified!" Lucca said, excitedly. Brock joined in. "Well, this match should be interesting. Squall beat Jill, while Luigi took out the minor opponent known as Ratchet. Squall's definitely out to show he's not a pushover after losing to Solid Snake in round one of last year's tournament, so he's going to be fighting hard. This might be hard to call, but I think it's in Luigi's favor" Squall's music began as the Swordsman walked out. He carried his Gunblade in one hand, and over his shoulder was the massive case that contained the Buster Gunblade. "Wow, what is that?" Asked Lucca, looking on in surprise at the huge case. "What could that be? I sure hope it's not something too bad..." "Yeah, but just in case, I got look-alikes for us to stand in if he's using something strong enough to break the forcefield" Brock said. Two people, dressed like Brock and Lucca with fake imitations of their hairstyles walked out. "Uhh..." Lucca looked at this, not quite sure what to say. "Can they do this?" "Well, if he breaks the barrier, I figured that the only thing we'd be doing is running around in circles and screaming, so, that's what they'll do" Brock replied cheerfully. Lucca looked at her partner scoldingly and his grin dropped. He turned to the look-alikes. "I'll call if I need you" Squall dropped the Buster Gunblade case outside of the ring and held his own Gunblade in his hand. He wouldn't reveal what was inside the box, unless needed. "And here comes Luigi!" Lucca said as the Mario Brothers' theme played. Luigi walked out with Mario, getting an assortment of boos and jeers from the crowd. Luigi just ignored this, and walked to the ring. He stood near one of the pipes and looked at Squall. "And things seem tense between them" Lucca said. "Well, I think it's time we start this match! Ref-Bot, if you will" Ref-Bot floated over towards the fighters. "Fighters, ready?" "A-ready" "Whatever..." Sephiroth took a seat in the audience next to Cloud and Aeris. He smirked. "Hm. I'm surprised that child-beating plumber even decided to show. I mean, sure, I might've killed her," He nodded towards Aeris "But beating a child that can't even defend himself well? Just bad" Isaac and Felix walked up to Sephiroth. Isaac began to speak. "Hey, aren't you the impudent, bisexual bigamist?" "What?!" Sephiroth angrily glared at the two kids. He drew his sword. The two began to dash, laughing at the man's anger, as Sephiroth pursued them through the audience. Back at the ring, Ref-Bot began his countdown. "Three...two...one...GO!" Luigi quickly began a forward dash at Squall. Squall quickly leapt back, then come forward with a shot of his Gunblade. Luigi ducked and rolled beneath it and moved forward for a quick fist attack to hit Squall several times, his eyes closed for some reason as he threw the blows. "And Luigi's Fists of Fea-ury attack begins and hits Squall several times in a row" Brock told the crowd. "He begins off on the right foot" Squall swung his Gunblade overhead and brought it down with a swing, narrowly missing Luigi who managed to jump away and land on his hands. Luigi did a quick flip and slammed Squall in the face with a fast Karate Chop, then used two more before he landed. Squall's face stung from the blows, but he didn't have time to dwell on them as Luigi quickly moved at him again and grabbed the teenager by the jacket, hurling him across the stage. Squall bounced off the bottom a few times before getting up. "Luigi uses fast physical moves to overpower Squall in this exchange" Lucca reported. "Could this be a one-sided match?" Luigi began to shoot green Fireballs from his hand. Squall was able to easily move away from the slow-moving projectiles and come in at a close range. Luigi threw a quick fist to hit Squall, but the swordsman was able to shake it off and use his Rough Divide to stop another incoming attack. Luigi was knocked upwards into the air. Squall got ready for another attack, just as Luigi came down with a downward twist of his lower body to kick Squall in he head and knock him to the ground. Luigi leapt back away from Squall, smirking happily. "Luigi takes the lead still, despite a fast move by Squall" Lucca updated. "Wow, this is getting exciting..." "Squall might come back, but it's not really clear if anyone is really WINNING right now" Added Brock. Luigi stood tall as Squall drew his Gunblade and took another stride at Luigi. Luigi moved forward with a fast fist, and then used the opportunity to hurl his green Fireball attack at Squall from close range several times. Squall tried to make an attack with his Gunblade, but found himself unable to. Luigi quickly kicked Squall in the stomach and knocked him back, then came after him again. Squall stood up and took a quick swing of the Gunblade, piercing Luigi's overalls around his stomach, but not enough to stop the plumber from landing a forward-aimed kick to the chest, knocking Squall back down on his back. Squall found himself crawling to the edge of the ring for a chance to breathe. Squall then looked over and saw it. The case containing the Buster Gunblade that Cloud had given him. He stood, unable to decide whether to take it. He only got it out of something that didn't even happen...and it would be an unfair advantage... Luigi made another harsh fist across Squall's face. Squall hit the ground and then quickly got to his feet. There was only one choice. Panting, Squall quickly threw his Gunblade at Luigi. Luigi gave a yell and leapt out of the way to avoid being impaled by the weapon. As Luigi dodged, Squall picked up the case from the side of the ring and opened it. The crowd gasped. The shining silver blade shined in the sun brought by the Balamb Gardens. The trigger at the end of it seemed to fit perfectly in Squall's hand as he heaved the sword over his back. "My gosh! I don't believe it...Squall has taken out a massive sword that looks like Cloud's, but it has a trigger like a Gunblade. What could it be?" Asked Lucca. "I believe it's called a Buster Gunblade" Brock informed her. "I've heard of them before but never seen them. I think this might just be Squall's chance to win" Luigi looked Squall in the eye with a look of sheer determination. "You-a got a new weapon, but that-a does not-a scare me" Luigi moved forward. Squall, with some difficulty, quickly heaved the sword with both hands and took a swung. Luigi stopped before he reached Squall and leapt back. The massive sword's missed blow collided with the ground, nearly destroying a huge part of the university that Squall was standing on. Both of the fighters were shocked at this. "Whoa, and that missed shot just took a number out on the Balamb Gardens!" Brock announced. "I'd hate to see Luigi, or anyone for that matter get hit by that. It'd be ugly..." Squall quickly reached into his pocket and pulled out one of the bullets that Jill gave him. ~No time to harden it...~ He thought. He quickly loaded two bullets into the trigger and took a shot. What emerged was not the bullet, but an insanely powerful force. The Buster Gunblade converted the bullet's potential into an amazing amount of energy, released in its purest form. Luigi gasped as the massive attack came at him. If that hit, chances are it would be over. Luigi reached into his overall pocket and pulling out something glowing enclosed in his hands. The plumber took a deep breath and squeezed it as the attack came within range. A massive blow rang out, and smoke soon covered half of the area. "Oh no! The attack hit! Luigi must be...I don't think he could've possibly survived!" Gasped Lucca. "This is certainly a chilling turn of events..." The smoke cleared slowly, Squall panting as it did. The attack actually drained him, as the Buster Gunblade wasn't easy to use, given how heavy it was. However, a glowing force stood behind the smoke. There was Luigi, a yellow glow surrounding him. "Luigi is...okay?" Brock gasped. "It's a miracle! Luigi survived the attack!" "No way..." Squall whispered. "Luigi! You-a did it!" Mario cheered. Luigi smiled and nodded. Now with his Super Star protecting him, Luigi ran at Squall and grabbed him, throwing the fighter into the ground, causing him to drop the Buster Gunblade. As Squall bounced up, Luigi smashed him with a mighty headbutt, and then followed with a harsh upward punch. The attacks seemed twice as bad as before, due to the glow. Squall took the Gunblade in his hand after dodging another attack, and swung at Luigi, right at his head. He closed his eyes, as he didn't want to see what he would do to him after the attack. Nothing. It was as if the attack had no effect. Luigi shot a Fireball into Squall's hand, causing him to drop the Buster Gunblade again. Luigi pushed Squall away and then picked up the blade himself, with some difficulty. Squall gasped at this, and threw a fast kick at Luigi, now that he had no weapon. No effect still. "And with this glowing transformation, attacks are useless against Luigi. And Luigi's trying to lift that Gunblade, but to no effect" Lucca announced as Luigi failed to pick up the blade. He proceeded to drop it and proceed to physical attacks. "And Luigi's going back to punches and kicks...ooh, this isn't looking up for Squall. He's sure getting beaten, bad" Brock winced. "Ooh, that's going to leave a bruise" Luigi was now still leading the match against Squall, who was panting. He felt his head for blood, but only felt sweat. He then noticed something. The golden glow around Luigi was diminishing...quite small now. Almost gone, even. Luigi came forward at Squall, who managed to get up and deliver a fast fist to Luigi's stomach. The attack succeeded as the final seconds of the Star's power wore off, and the shock of the attack stopped Luigi, though it wasn't strong. As Luigi fell to his knees, Squall quickly made a dash past the plumber and picked up the Buster Gunblade, not seeming to mind how heavy it was. Luigi turned around, as Squall's Buster Gunblade slashed him across the arm and sent him spiraling. "And it seems that Squall has picked up the Buster Gunblade again and is making successful attacks on Luigi!" Lucca announced. Luigi found himself after several more attacks after this. Squall launched into his Renzokuken, or Sequential Blade. Squall moved forward with an upward slash, and then leapt into the air. "FATED CIRCLE!" Squall called as he aimed his Buster Gunblade at Luigi. Out of it came a large energy wave, not as large as the first, but large enough to hit Luigi with quite a good amount of damage. Luigi fell to the ground hard a few times. Squall stood, looking on, seeing if it was over. But after a few seconds had passed, Luigi was rising to his feet again. "And Luigi just doesn't fall!" Brock said. "Despite a furious Fated Circle attack, Luigi is still rising to fight again. Can Luigi just pull through by continuing?" ~That should've finished him...~ Squall thought. "I'm going to have to go in again" Squall moved at Luigi with several furious swings. Luigi managed to move away from most of the attacks, until a sixth swing slashed Luigi's side. Squall came from the air and came down with a swing, which Luigi was able to move away from. Squall was just starting to pull the Gunblade back, as Luigi came forward and knocked back the SeeD member. Luigi began to throw furious fists at Squall, because it may be the last chance he'd have. Squall tried to resist, but Luigi couldn't stop. This trend of attacks continued onwards and onwards. Squall felt the skin on his forehead being broken as the fists bashed against him. Panting, Luigi stopped momentarily. He couldn't throw any more attacks. Squall quickly leapt into the air and knocked Luigi back with a tackle before picking up the Buster Gunblade. He pointed at Luigi and shot a single one of Jill's bullets at Luigi, this time using it as a normal bullet by simply using the trigger differently. The trigger hit Luigi's left leg, causing him to fall over in pain. "Luigi's been shot! This doesn't look good" Brock pointed out. "But Squall seems too worn out now. Man, this fight is taking a toll on both of them" "It's going to really come down to the wire now" Lucca added. "Will Luigi pull through for the people who bet on him?" Squall could easily finish Luigi now, but he was in pain. And he would only have one shot, maybe two or three, before he would pass out of fatigue. A good sleep seemed like a good idea to him at this point, too. He would've liked to sit down right now...he was too drained. I have only one chance... Squall thought, panting. I'm going to have to use the Lion Heart before I pass out... He coughed a little. He's too hurt to resist...I have to do this... With some difficulty, Squall pulled up the Buster Gunblade and moved at Luigi. Squall-a doesn't have a chance...I can finish him off with my cape...they did-a not suspect I had one, too, but once I use it right, he's finished! Luigi reached into the back of his overalls, and grabbed the yellow object. Squall dashed at Luigi, who stood up straight, despite the torturous pain in his leg. Luigi just stood, awaiting Squall's arrival, trying to be prepared. Luigi pulled out his yellow cape. "Okay-a Squall, this-a finishes you!" It was too late. Squall had already launched into an attack. Luigi swung the cape. The sword came down, and slipped past the cape, which was swung a second too early. A slash hit Luigi, then another, and several more in a fast fury. After a total amount of eighteen blows. Squall stood afterwards, panting. Luigi looked up, his eyes almost closed. He opened his mouth to say something, before falling on his back. Squall gave a fatigued groan and dropped the Buster Sword. "The winner...Squall" Ref-Bot announced to a stunned crowd. The entire audience suddenly burst out into cheering for Squall. Not many were expecting him to win, but now that he did, they were happy. Squall gave a small smile, satisfied with his performance, before joining Luigi and hitting the ground as well. "Squall has done it! I can't even believe what I saw!" Lucca announced. "Squall will move onto the Sweet Sixteen!" "Luigi seemed to have the match won before it even started, but Squall pulled through with a win" Added Brock. "And it seems that the fight took out its toll on him, as he hits the ground just after his victory is announced" Lucca concluded. Cloud walked into the ring. "Nice job Squall" He said to his fellow Final Fantasy member. He looked over at the Buster Gunblade, and then noticed that the end of it was badly broken. A large shard of the edge was over at the end. "Oh no, you broke it...oh well, that's all right" Cloud helped Squall out of the ring, as Mario did the same for Luigi. The two stopped and nodded to each other before bringing the fighters out of the ring. "My goodness, talk about the match to see" Lucca was stunned. "That was about as explosive as Ganondorf versus Magus!" Brock sighed. "Well, looks like I won't need to be paying those extras" "Oh Brock" Lucca giggled a little. "Well, we'll be back as the North Division wraps up! It's KOS-MOS versus Samus Aran! Which one of these two girls can win to face our surprise winner of Squall? Find out when Vs. Mode returns!"
