Vs. Mode - DK vs. VyseThe scene opens high above a busy complex, sitting in the middle of a barren wasteland. The shape of a skull becomes more visible as the camera zooms downward. All around, robots of varying shapes and sizes are milling about the area. Large Ws are seen on the walls of many of the buildings, especially on the one where many of the bots are headed towards. The camera rushes over their heads and into the arena. "We are live on Pay-Per-Play, coming from Skull Stadium, where the first round of the GameFAQs Great Character Battle II concludes!" The camera pans backwards to the familiar announcing pair. "Hello again to everyone watching throughout the multiverse! My name is Brock, and she's our resident queen of machines, Lucca! Welcome to Vs. Mode." "Tonight, we'll see the last set of first round matches for this year's GCB. First up is a big ape against a pirate, but we have some breaking news for you. Duke Nukem has been revived, thanks mostly to Aeris and a bunch of other healers. The bubblegum-chewing gunman immediately tried to hit on Aeris, but she quickly Silenced him and let the doctors take it from there. The investigation is still going on, and Dr. Wily has assigned many of his Robot Masters to guard duty all around the stadium. Let's hope nothing like last week's incident occurs here." The DK Rap blares over the speakers just as Lucca finishes her sentence. "Donkey Kong is another of the GCB's older contestants. He and the Kong Klan have waged many battles against the Kremlings and their commander King K. Rool. Last year, the monkey took down old-timer Bub and the not-so-old Aya Brea before getting stomped by Mario." Donkey Kong leaps into the ring and plays to the crowd as the Skies of Arcadia theme plays. "Vyse is the infamous Blue Rogue from Valua. He usually fights with a crew to back him up, but here, he'll have to take his opponent on by himself. This is Vyse's first GCB appearance." Vyse jumps onto the stone circle, unsheathing his Sky Fang in the process. "This one is going to be tough to call," Brock begins his analysis. "Donkey Kong has his brute strength and a few other tricks up his hairy sleeve, while Vyse wields the Sky Fang and knows some powerful magic, plus his personal set of S-Moves. In the end though, I think Donkey Kong's experience will get him through this match." "Players, to your positions. Player 1, ready?" Donkey Kong grunts in the affirmative. "Player 2, ready?" "Ready!" Vyse responds. "Combatants ready. Raise force barriers. Match 29, Donkey Kong vs. Vyse. 3, 2, 1... fight!" "Power's on; game's started! Donkey Kong reaches behind his back for his Coconut Gun. The shells are flying, but Vyse dodges the slow moving projectiles. The pirate answers with Cutlass Fury, and the monkey just got a close shave from the Sky Fang as he rolled out of that attack." "Donkey Kong rolls into a ball to try to bowl Vyse over, but the air pirate backs all the way to the edge of the ring. Vyse looks like he's focusing for one of his S-Moves. Could it be? It is! Pirates' Wrath!!" "That hurt just watching it. Donkey Kong is down, and the referee is counting. He got to an eight-count, but DK is somehow on his feet. The strength of this simian is astounding, but how will he deal with his less fatigued opponent? Donkey Kong... takes out his bongos?!" "Vyse looks perplexed, but the tune being played is bad news for him. DK's musical talents created a shock wave that blew away the air pirate from where he stood. Donkey Kong runs up to the downed Vyse and pounds the ground with a devastating Hand Slap! Vyse landed in DK's clutches, leaving him at the mercy of the monkey." "And DK winds up for his finisher, Giant Punch! Vyse gets sent hurtling into the force barriers and falls face down outside the ring. That ought to do it. Many of the competitors who have faced the big ape in a melee could tell us, first hand, how it feels to have his huge fist slammed into their head, and now Vyse has had the pleasure of that experience as well," Brock says as Ref-Bot raises the white flag. "Winner: Donkey Kong." "DK's powerful moves brought the air pirate down to earth, and the ape moves on to the next round.
