Vs. Mode - Knuckles vs. Yuna


"Welcome back for the twenty-sixth fight" Lucca began as the crowd cheered. "Yep, this is a divisional round showdown between two characters of reasonably even strength"

"That's right" Brock added. "It's Knuckles the Echidna, the ally of Sonic who guards the Master Emerald and not only kicks butt, but punches it. Because he can't really kick much anyway. He has been known for ousting Rouge the Bat, and the fearsome King Boom Boo. In last year's tournament, he made quick work of martial artist Akira Yuki, before bowing out in a match against Solid Snake, in which he put up a rather good fight. Quite the contender, indeed"

"Yes, but opposing him is another strong one who can't be counted out. Yuna, no last name given" Lucca continued. "She uses a lot of magic and in her first debut, she is expected to take out the red echidna by many"

Brock took over again. "And surprisingly enough, the winner faces Solid Snake, who crushed Raiden. So if Knuckles wins, we'll see a rematch!"

"Well, with that said, it's time for the fight! First, welcome the protector of the Master Emerald, that red echidna, who we all know and most of us love, Knuckles!"

Rap music played as Knuckles walked out into the arena. Sonic was behind him, as Tails was too squeamish to come near the ring. "Remember" Sonic said. "Tails may have lost to Auron, but you're stronger than Tails and Yuna isn't as strong as Auron. Plus, I beat Tidus. Any which way you put it, you can do this"

"I'll try" Knuckles nodded to Sonic and entered the ring to a loud ovation. He threw a few punches at the air for the crowd, bringing out a red-pink flash with each punch of his metal gloves. He landed and continued to throw punches at the air to warm up his punching attacks.

"And opposing Knuckles" Lucca began. "Is the girl who's result will make or break the record for the Tidus Team. She is stronger than she looks, welcome the healer of the Tidus Team and powerful summoner, Yuna!"

Yuna took a few steps out, Auron and a bandaged Tidus at her side. They whispered a few words of encouragement before taking ringside seats next to Sonic.

"Hello, hedgehog" Tidus said as he crossed his arms next to Sonic. "Ready to see the other smelly animal lose?"

"Yep. Yuna's gonna lose all right" Sonic replied coolly. Tidus began to growl angrily, but Auron put a hand on his shoulder and shook his head to keep Tidus from retaliating.

"This should be an interesting match" Brock began to analyze. "Yuna is a newcomer and we don't know exactly HOW strong she is. Knuckles proved his strength as not extremely great, but good indeed. On one hand, you have hard-on fist attacks from Knuckles, against magic attacks from Yuna. One way or another, this is going to be good"

"It'll be a guessing game to the end of it" Lucca announced. "Now we go to Ref-Bot to get the match started"

"Are you ready?" Knuckles nodded and went into a fighting position. Yuna nodded too and stood tall. "Okay then. Three...two...one...GO!"

"Time to do this again!" Knuckles dashed full-force at Yuna. Yuna pulled a staff that was strapped to her back, but ended up hit by a dashing punch to the stomach before she was able to attack. Yuna hit the floor hard as Knuckles took a step back. Yuna was still just getting to her feet, leaving Knuckles a chance to come back with more punching combos to the woman's stomach, followed by another powerful blow to the face which knocked her several feet back.

Yuna pulled her rod and swung at Knuckles several times, but only to give the echidna a chance to dodge with each blow. Yuna's rod was swung again, and Knuckles leapt to dodge it. He began to fly above Yuna, with his flying ability. Yuna took another swing of her rod at Knuckles, not connecting. Knuckles came from the sky after her missed attack, and came down like a drill to slam Yuna into the ground. Knuckles leapt back at this, smirking.

"It's over. Knuckles beat her easy" Sonic said from the sidelines. "YEAH, KNUCKLES!"

Knuckles began to throw punches at the air in celebration for his victory. However, he did not notice that Yuna has getting up. By the time Knuckles realized this, Yuna's staff had slammed him hard in the face, knocking Knuckles down. Knuckles began to pull himself up, but another quick combination of Yuna's staff blows knocked him back again.

Yuna smirked. "You thought you won? You're a little too confident, especially for a guardian"

Knuckles kicked himself to his feet and looked at Yuna, a serious glint in his eyes. "Okay then, Yuna. Time we turn things up"

"Oh, and Yuna is making a good comeback" Lucca announced. "Could this mean doom for the red echidna? Or will he maintain the lead he had at the beginning"

"Well, it seems that Yuna is turning things up from when she started" Brock added. "I'll tell you one thing, she sure is pretty though"

Knuckles and Yuna went into a quick dash at each other. Yuna thrust her staff at Knuckles quickly, who leapt over the blows with great speed and agility. As soon as he hit the ground, in time for yet another incoming swipe, Knuckles held up one claw and batted the staff away in time to launch an attack of rapid, strong punches at Yuna. A red-pink light surrounded Knuckles' claws as he punched Yuna's stomach one time after another, eventually ending in an uppercut that brought Yuna several feet into the air.

"And in the next exchange of blows, Knuckles knocks Yuna down!" Brock announced. "Poor Yuna..."

Knuckles was ready to continue a lead stretched into a victory. "I haven't used this one in a good long while. Here goes!" He curled up into a sphere, and began to move his body in a circular pattern in a spin. Yuna got back to her feet and saw as Knuckles continued to spin. She began to move forward, but Knuckles' Spin Dash knocked her off her feet rather easily. Knuckles took a jump back and waited for Yuna to rise. Knuckles grinned. "All right, Yuna. Time to finish this"

Knuckles began to move as quickly as he could at Yuna. Knuckles raised his hand. "Hammer PUNCH!" Knuckles brought down his fist, and found himself gasping before he could do much more. Yuna had driven her staff into Knuckles' stomach, and the shock had left him gasping. Yuna smirked as Knuckles fell on his face.

"Oh, and Knuckles is down!" Lucca announced. "Once again, Knuckles has fallen for the bait, believing that he's won the match. And now Yuna seems like she's going to be the one to win"

"And now Yuna seems like she's preparing to do something else while Knuckles is just getting to his feet" Brock said.

Yuna held her staff up and began to wave it around rapidly. Knuckles got up while this was happening, and wondered what Yuna was doing. Clouds began to gather in the air while she did this. And out of them, emerged a massive shape. Knuckles looked up in shock as a massive dragon stepped out. A dark dragon stood in the stadium, two large wings sticking out of its back, a spiked tail three times as long as Knuckles or Yuna. It's yellow underbelly and lower jaw lead to huge teeth that were sharp, as the claws it bore. The mighty Bahamut gave a roar as it prepared to destroy Knuckles.

"Yuna's summoned Bahamut! It looks like it might just be lights out for the red guy" Brock said.

The Bahamut, standing on two legs, charged Knuckles. Knuckles ran from the massive monster as fast as he could, but only reached the edge of the ring. Bahamut raised it's claw and swung at Knuckles, nearly decapitating him. Knuckles, however, rolled away and began to dash.

Yuna was waiting for Knuckles, and proceeded to hit him with a rather powerful swing of her staff. Knuckles was knocked back, not far from the Bahamut. Knuckles leapt away from Bahamut again, only to be struck by Yuna, this time in the form of a kick.

Bahamut was waiting, as it clawed into Knuckles' back angrily. Knuckles yelled and fell to the floor, where Bahamut furiously stomped on Knuckles' foot. Knuckles' yell of agony could be heard around the stadium. The Bahamut stepped back and gave a low growl at the echidna warrior.

Yuna smirked. "Sorry Knuckles, but I think you're just about done with this time. You can't win"

"I can't...win?"

Knuckles thought back to the previous year. He beat Akira Yuki rather impressively, but nobody cared. "You're going to get beaten by Solid Snake come round two!" They all taunted.

And so he did.

Knuckles remembered all the taunts before he faced Solid Snake, and though he put up a brave fight, Knuckles was still pounded hard into the ground by Solid Snake's fists and bullets. And now, in a round earlier than last year, Yuna was here to taunt him, about how she was going to win, and that he would be defeated by this girl.

Knuckles looked up angrily. "No...I can win!" Knuckles said aloud. "Eggman's made stronger things than that dragon, I'd wager. I'll take it"

Yuna looked seriously at Knuckles and gasped. She knew that Knuckles' true power would be revealed here, and she was afraid of what it might be.

"Whoa, Knuckles is motivated now!" Brock commented. "Can thus sudden change help him overcome a towering Bahamut to win somehow?"

Bahamut got on all four and opened its mouth to use its Mega Flare, an attack that would easily wipe out Knuckles. Knuckles wasn't about to let that happen. He quickly yelled, holding out an arm at Bahamut. A flash kept the dragon from moving. "I don't have much time now...THUNDER ARROW!" A straight electric line struck into Bahamut's mouth. It couldn't move to resist, and the Thunder Arrow was circulating through his body, which was still frozen. Knuckles leapt up and drove the points of his Hammer Gloves into the Bahamut's Gloves, and in the remaining time of the frozen spell, began to punch furiously at the dragon's face. As he knew the time was running low, Knuckles leapt back.

When the Bahamut's body de-frozen, blood poured form where Knuckles had impaled it with his Hammer Gloves. It gave a roar as its insides were shocked with electricity. With a last groan, the Bahamut fell from the ring to ringside. Sonic, Tidus and Auron fortunately moved away before it fell.

"My goodness!" Lucca gasped. "Knuckles managed to slay the dragon without even being hurt that badly!"

"Now why wouldn't he use all those powers against Yuna?" Brock pondered aloud.

Yuna took a step back as Knuckles, still in anger, faced her. Knuckles began to run at Yuna once again. Yuna drew her staff but Knuckles' fists smashed into her stomach with a hard blow known as Hammer Punch. The crushing blow smashed her into the ruing floor, making a dent. Yuna quickly slid from the ring due to the velocity she was sent at and because she wasn't paying attention to how close she was to the edge.

"Ooh, a harsh punch sends Yuna out!" Lucca was shocked at the power of the single attack. "Can Yuna regroup in time to finish the fight?"

Ref-Bot began to count, but as Yuna had hit the ground hard, everyone knew she wasn't going to be getting up.

"The winner is Knuckles the Echidna" Ref-Bot announced.

"Knuckles wins!" Brock announced, strangely happily for the defeat of a female.

"Yay!" Lucca cheered. The two dropped any professionalism they had to get up and dance for Knuckles' victory.

Tidus and Auron walked to ringside and helped Yuna up. "You did good, Yuna" Tidus comforted her. "Don't worry, I lost too. You're not alone"

"And I have enough strength to make up for all of you in the second round. So don't stress about losing. I'm sure next year, you two will do better..." Auron's speech wasn't heard after that as Tidus and the crew left.

Sonic dashed to Knuckles and gave him a high-five. "Nice job, Knuckles. I knew you'd win"

"Thanks Sonic" Knuckles rubbed the back of his head. "Well, I think we should go catch up with Tails"

As Sonic and Knuckles left, Lucca continued. "And so, the victory goes to Knuckles the Echidna in the end. He will get a rematch with Solid Snake, and we can only await to see if Knuckles can make it different this time around. Join us in only a little while, when the legendary fighter Ryu, and gunslinging bad-mouthed Duke Nukem take to the ring in a clash that is sure to be exciting!"

"Now, if we get someone to get the Bahamut carcass out of the ring, we'll be set" Brock concluded.
