GCB Fanfics: Vs. Mode

Vs. Mode - Sephiroth vs. Raziel

"Welcome back, folks. We've reached the final first round match of the incredibly unpredictable South Division, but it seems the crowd knows who will win this one," Brock says as One Winged Angel plays over the loudspeakers to the delight of a frenzied crowd.

"You would think that these people would have some kind of fear or hatred towards our next competitor. He came very close to annihilating them, after all, but it seems that that is not what's on their minds at this moment." Sephiroth comes into view as his name is chanted by the speakers and the spectators.

"The antagonist member of Double-F's seventh squad, Sephiroth made it to the Final Four, where he lost to eventual champion Link in one of the most electrifying matches of last year's GCB. Sephiroth is a serious contender for the championship again this year, and Link would be his opponent if he makes it to the finals."

Sephiroth steps up onto the stone circle, which is returned after Max's victory. The theme to Soul Reaver signals Raziel's arrival. "This undead aberration used to be one of Kain's vampiric lieutenants before he was cast down and became what he is today. Raziel was also a participant in last year's GCB, but was cut down in a close match by Strider Hiryu." The reaver of souls glides into the ring. "Has Raziel improved enough within the last year to even stand a chance against Sephiroth?"

"I highly doubt it," Brock answers. "Raziel does wield the Soul Reaver, but Sephiroth has his Masamune and a bunch of devastating spells at his disposal. I don't think Sephiroth will have much of a problem with this match."

"Players, to your positions. Player 1, ready?"

"Ready," Sephiroth calmly replies as he unsheathes his really long sword.

"Player 2, ready?"

"Ready," Raziel responds, manifesting the Soul Reaver.

"Combatants ready. Raise force barriers. Match 24, Sephiroth vs. Raziel. 3, 2, 1... fight!"

"Power's on; game's started! Raziel rushes forward for an attack, but his blade is blocked by Sephiroth. The Masamune's unbelievable length may seem to make the sword ungainly to wield, but Sephiroth has perfect control over it, parrying each one of Raziel's strikes."

"Raziel needs to find an opening, if he hopes to deal any damage to his opponent. Sephiroth may not give him the chance though, as he casts Fire 3! Raziel doesn't seem fazed, which is reasonable considering his experience with the Lake of the Dead."

"While Sephiroth recovers from the casting, Raziel rushes in and executes a nasty combination with his claws, shredding his foe's clothes to the point where his chest is exposed. Sephrioth punches Raziel away, but not before hundreds of fangirls scream in joy at seeing their idol's bare chest."

"Luckily, I'm not one of them," Lucca proudly states.

Brock continues, "The white-haired bishounen looks quite angry, knowing that he was scratched. Raziel runs towards the former SOLDIER-"

Lucca interrupts, "And Sephiroth casts Ultima! That's the second time that spell has been cast, and the effect is just as profound as Aeris', if not more so. The force barriers have held up again, showing just how safe being a spectator can be in the GCB. The dust is clearing now, and Sephiroth is the only one left in the ring! The spell of destruction was too much for Raziel to take."

Brock continues from Lucca's comment, "As a result, Raziel has been returned to the Spectral Plane and probably won't be back in time to continue this fight. Ref-Bot is counting-out Raziel as if he was outside the ring, which he technically is. So, this one is over."

"Winner: Sephiroth."

"The son of Jevona dispatches the reaver of souls easily and moves on to a second round battle with Max Payne. That will do it here for us in Midgar. We'll be back, live from Shadow Moses Island, for the start of the wild West Division," Brock says.

"For Brock and Max, I'm Lucca saying so long until next time on Vs. Mode!"
