Vs. Mode - Wario vs. Shadow"We're back, and the match between Mario's and Sonic's opposites is just about to get underway," Brock says. "First, let's go to Max for an injury report. How are they doing, Max?" Max is standing outside Mushroom Hospital as he gives his update. "I have good news, Lucca. Captain Olimar and his Pikmin were just admitted here. Under the treatment of Dr. Mario, the prognosis is they are all just a little waterlogged. They should be sent on their way by the end of the day. Now to last week's injuries, Ken is still recovering at Station Square Medical Center, but he was in good spirits when I last spoke with him. Scorpion, being undead, was not given treatment before he was sent back to wherever he came from. Lastly, Ness has finally recuperated from his harrowing defeat at the paws of King Bowser Koopa. Wario has had a history of loving only himself and his money, which has not earned him many fans among the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom. He's also regularly invited to many of Mario's gatherings." Wario raises his hands to the crowd, which boos him in response. The yellow and purple clad plumber hops into the ring as the White Jungle theme is heard. "Shadow is a recent addition to the Sonic Team. He almost succeeded in destroying the world, but in the end, he leant Sonic a hand in preventing it from happening." Shadow skates in to some cheers, but mostly boos as he jumps onto the stone circle. Sonic appears at ringside, which Shadow acknowledges only with a brief glance over his shoulder. "How do you think this match will go, Brock?" "Shadow is speed, and Wario is strength. In this case, I would have to say Wario would have the advantage. He's taken heavy hits and dished them out over his career. His stamina will help him outlast the speedy hedgehog." "Players, to your positions. Player 1, ready?" "I'm-a ready!" Wario says as he pounds his chest with his fist. "Player 2, ready?" "Ready," Shadow answers, leaning forward. "Combatants ready. Raise force barriers. Match 18, Wario vs. Shadow. 3, 2, 1... fight!" "Power's on; game's started!" Brock pauses. "Wait, they're both just staring at each other! What's going on?" "Both of these characters have been labeled as inferior to their good counterparts. I think it's only natural that they be wary of the other, because both of them are here to prove their worth," Lucca theorizes. Wario snickers at his opponent. "I'm-a Wario. I'm-a gonna ween!" Shadow responds, "I am the ultimate lifeform. You have no chance to defeat me." "What's-a fake hedgehog like you gonna do to me?" "Faker? I think you're the faker around here! What kind of a plumber would wear yellow and purple? Don't even get me started about your face." "What's-a wrong with my face?! I'll-a pound you into the ground for that!" "I'd like to see you try," Shadow says as he begins to skate around the angry Wario. "I shall-a create another game for Wario Ware when you-a lose, you black pin cushion!" Brock and Lucca both blink as the real battle starts. "I guess they just wanted to trash talk," Lucca says, corrected. "Shadow won that round. Wario is fuming as he tries to dash into Shadow! The black hedgehog uses Chaos Control to teleport out of the way. With a Chaos Emerald in his hands, Shadow can pretty much stay out of Wario's grasp all day." "Shadow attempts to skewer his foe with Chaos Spear, but Wario dashes away from the attack. Wario tries a new tactic as he reaches into his cap and pulls out some garlic! Shadow skates in to attack, but Wario pops the garlic into his mouth and breathes his foul breath right into Shadow's face! The hedgehog staggers, giving Wario enough time to grab and piledrive him!" "Shadow recovers instantly as his power rings scatter, and he somersaults into Wario, knocking the fat plumber onto his rear. The hedgehog backs away and is spinning furiously in place as spots of light build up around him." "There's no time for games!" Shadow yells as he activates his Ancient Light. "Wario couldn't even stand up before Shadow released his Light Speed Attack! I couldn't even see how many times Wario got hit by that rapidly moving black ball of quills." "However many it was, it did the trick as Wario is completely passed out. Shadow looks down coldly at his opponent as Ref-Bot counts-out the plumber." "Winner: Shadow." The black hedgehog has one hand on his head as he steps down and slowly skates away toward the locker rooms. "You all right, Shadow?" Sonic asks. Shadow glares at Sonic from the sides of his eyes. "I'm fine," he coldly replies. "If you thought I would let you fare better in this competition, then you are sorely mistaken." "I don't really care about any of that right now. You need to see a doctor for what fatso did to you." Shadow grimaces from a sudden sharp pain in his head. "Leave me alone. I don't need anyone's help." The two hedgehogs continue their conversation as they exit. "And in what some could consider a stunning upset, Shadow defeats Wario and advances to face Mario! Hey, that rhymes!" Lucca points out. "We're only a quarter of the way through the South, and we already have had a surprise result. We'll see in that trend continues.
