Vs. Mode - Sonic vs. Ken"We're back for the final match of the night, one the fans have been waiting patiently for." A blur of blue zooms into the stadium even before his entrance music, the original Sonic theme, starts to play. "But it seems the wait was a little too long for Sonic's taste. The hedgehog rushes in to a loud pop from the people he saved from Chaos, Dr. Eggman, and the Eclipse Cannon. The Sonic Team originally hailed from the planet Mobius, but they have called Station Square their new home." Knuckles and Tails join Sonic at their own pace, while Shadow stays near the entryway to watch from afar. Ken's Theme is heard as the martial artist with the distinctive red gi makes his way to the ring with considerably less applause. Ryu follows and stands at ringside with his arms folded as Ken hops onto the stone circle. "An experienced fighter, Ken Masters has studied hard under the instruction of Ryu. Capable of many powerful techniques, Ken can be a threat to anyone in his way. All of his experience couldn't help him though when he took a first round exit, thanks to Samus," Lucca says. Sonic is tapping his foot impatiently as Ken takes his time to warm up. Brock gives his analysis, "Sonic is pure speed. I highly doubt that Ken will be able to hit something that fast, even with all of his martial arts training. Sonic should have an easy win here." "Players, to your positions." "It's about time!" Sonic exasperatedly says as Ken moves into his, appropriately colored, red starting square. "Player 1, ready?" "Yeah, come on! Let's get this fight over with," Sonic confidently responds. "Player 2, ready?" "Ready!" Ken replies. "Combatants ready. Raise force barriers. Match 16, Sonic vs. Ken. 3, 2, 1... fight!" "Power's on; game's started! And Sonic wastes no time in running circles around Ken. The Street Fighter answers by running up to the edge of the blue donut and executing a Hurricane Kick, which succeeds in knocking Sonic to the ground and scattering his power rings!" "Ken uses this golden opportunity to pick Sonic up and toss him into the air to connect with a fierce Shoryuken! And if that wasn't enough, Sonic is hit with a Hadoken before he lands on his back. The hedgehog took the full brunt of those attacks without any power rings to protect him, but we've seen him stand up to heavy hits before, when he and Samus fought in last year's Sweet Sixteen." "Sonic has gotten back up, his ego bruised more than anything else. The blue hedgehog now uses his super speed to get behind Ken, and Sonic bowls him over with a somersault! Sonic calls on one of his newest attacks, Sonic Wind! I've been told that that attack is similar to getting caught in a whirlwind of sharp blades, or a Razor Wind for those familiar to Pokémon attacks, like myself." "Anyway," Lucca says, cutting Brock off, "Ken is back up, but Sonic Homing Attacks him for his trouble! Getting slammed in the back by a sharp-quilled hedgehog, rotating at who knows how many revolutions per minute, should predictably be very painful. Ken is down on his knees and one hand, favoring the spot where Sonic impacted. It doesn't look like Ken is going to be able to continue this fight, and I don't blame him. That attack has been shattering robots for years, and I'd hate to think of what it could do to flesh and bone. Ref-Bot briefly consults with him before raising the white flag." "Winner: Sonic." Ryu runs over to Ken as Station Square doctors prep a stretcher to carry Ken out on. The blond martial artist manages a smile as he says to his friend, "I let you down again, bro." Ryu responds, "You did your best. That is all that both of us could want." "Yeah. Well, I'll get better in time to watch you give that Duke Nukem guy the beating of his life!" Ryu showed a small smile as he nods, but their conversation is interrupted. "Hey, I'm really sorry about that last attack," Sonic apologetically says, getting both of the Street Fighters' attention. "I put too much spin into it. No hard feelings, right?" the hedgehog asks as he extends a gloved hand to Ken, who gladly accepts before he is carried away. "That hedgehog was much too proud of his talents. I won't make the same mistake against my foe," Shadow says to himself before he exits, quickly fading away through the entrance tunnel. "And so goes the East Division," Brock comments. "Sonic will face Zero in the second round. Can you believe we're only halfway through the first round?" "Don't worry about that, Brock. The excitement will most definitely pick up as the number of competitors continues to dwindle. Last year, the late rounds gave us instant classics such as Mario vs. Cloud, Mario vs. Crono, and the still talked about Sonic vs. Samus controversy.
