Vs. Mode - Cloud vs. CATSThe scene opens above an extravagant complex that seems to defy the laws of physics by hovering on a column. Spotlights and bright neon colors illuminate the surrounding darkness of the night sky as the camera zooms downward. The amusement park/casino is filled with happy patrons, who are thoroughly enjoying themselves with all of the attractions. Most of the visitors, though, are gathered in the stands surrounding the stone-floored Battle Arena. "We are live on Pay-Per-Play, coming from the astounding Gold Saucer, where the first round of the GCB competition continues!" A loud cheer goes up from the crowd as the camera pans back to the announcer pair. "Good evening to everyone watching throughout the multiverse! I'm Brock, and she's our tech expert, Lucca. Welcome to Vs. Mode!" "Last time, we wrapped up the first round of the North Division. The first four second round pairings are set, but we still have three more divisions to get through first! As we have witnessed in the last two weeks, the fights can bring out the best and the worst attributes of the fighters. Tonight, eight more are ready to show what they can do." Brock is almost drowned out by the deafening cheers as the people's hero enters the arena to the theme of Final Fantasy VII, accompanied by Aeris. "We begin the first round of the East Division with the one who, many believe, is capable of dethroning the champion. Cloud Strife is the leader of the famous seventh squad of Double-F. He went to the Elite Eight last year, where he suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Mario." Cloud looks nonchalant as he steps up into the ring. He put his hands behind his head as the theme to Zero Wing plays. "And now entering the arena is someone who was also here last year, but with a much different result. He was simply obliterated by Ryu at the first GCB. The incoherent CATS is back to try his luck." The camera zooms in on the vocal CATS supporters, who are holding the obligatory "All your GCB are belong to us!" sign along with "CATS set up Cloud the bomb!" and "CATS win, for great justice!" Brock puts his elbow on the desk and leans his head on his hand. "Didn't this guy suffer enough from last year to take a hint? There is no way Cloud can lose this match." "Well, if he wants to get beaten to a pulp again, that's his choice. I have to agree with you on that second point, Brock. The home crowd will certainly enjoy it, but this match will turn out to be a snooze and a half." "Players, to your positions." Cloud unsheathes his huge sword as he and CATS move to the starting squares. "How are you gentlemen!" CATS says to Cloud and Ref-Bot. Ref-Bot tries to think of a response, but then thinks otherwise. He has a job to do. "Player 1, ready?" "Ready!" Cloud says. "You are on the way to destruction," CATS taunts. "Player 2, ready?" "You have no chance to survive make your time," CATS replies. Ref-Bot tries to parse the sentence, but he gives up and assumes the alien is ready. "Combatants ready. Raise force barriers. Match 09, Cloud vs. CATS. 3, 2, 1... fight!" "I set up you the bomb!" CATS exclaims as he extends a hand from underneath his robes to reveal an ominous device with a bright, red button. "What?!" Cloud manages before CATS pushes the button, causing the area around Cloud to explode. "Whoa! What just happened?!" a surprised Brock asks. "Isn't it obvious? CATS somehow wired an explosive device to Cloud's starting square before the match. That's how he set up Cloud the bomb." "Please don't speak like that again, and isn't that illegal?" "CATS is a bad guy, after all. For all the ref knows, CATS is just using something that causes explosions. It shouldn't really matter, because this is Cloud we're talking about here. One bomb is not going to give him no chance to survive make your time." "You did it again!" "Oops, sorry about that. Back to the match, the smoke caused by the bomb is starting to dissipate, and Cloud is still standing! He brushes some dust off his clothes and looks none the worse for wear, considering!" Cloud glares at his opponent for his trickery. "Is that the best you can do?" CATS looks surprised for a moment before his smile returns. "You may escape bomb but not laser eye!" True to his word, CATS shoots a red beam from his barely noticeable right robotic eye. "And CATS pulls out another surprise by scorching Cloud with his laser eye! This is incredible, folks! Could CATS really upset the number one seeded Cloud?!" Brock says, now enthusiastic about the battle. Cloud hears Aeris calling his name as he falls to one knee and CATS gloats with a corny laugh. "I say you have no chance to survive make your time. Ha ha ha ha! You no listen to word I say. Ha ha ha ha! You feel no good? Good! Ha ha ha ha!" All of the taunting, all of the dirty tricks, and most of all, all of the bad English had pushed Cloud to his limit. "SHUT UUUUUUUP!" "And with a ferocious battle cry, Cloud unleashes the full fury of his Omnislash!" Lucca shouts. "Gee, who didn't see that coming," Brock says, bored once again. "Cloud finishes his Limit Break, but CATS is still standing! Could he have really survived Cloud's strongest move?" Lucca's question is answered quickly when CATS suddenly collapses. "Never mind, delayed reaction. CATS may have taken the early advantage, but in the end it was CATS are on the way to destruction." "You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?" Lucca giggles. "Darn, you caught me. In any case, this match goes to Cloud!" "Winner: Cloud." The crowd explodes with cheers for their hero, as he looks disdainfully at who he just defeated. "Our first battle of the East Division is in the books, but stay right where you are! On deck is- Hey!" Brock yells as Cloud yanks the microphone away from the announcer. "Link, I know you're here somewhere! You wanted to see just how powerful I am. Well, guess what? I can slaughter my opponents, just like you! If you want to fight me, then I'll see you in the semifinals!" Cloud roughly pushes the microphone back to Brock as he leaves to a standing ovation, with a worried Aeris running after him. Lucca is stunned for a moment before she explains, "Link issued a challenge back at Windfall Stadium, and Cloud answers here at the Gold Saucer! We have a lot more excitement coming up, after this!"
