Vs. Mode - Luigi vs. Ratchet"We're back at Phendrena Arena as we get set for the second opening round match of the day," Brock says, having recovered from Jill's loss. "Joining us right here is our behind-the-scenes guy, Max, who just finished an exclusive interview with last fight's winner, Squall. So, what did you ask him about?" Max looks hesitant as he replies, "I asked the winner many of the same questions that the fans here or the viewers at home would have asked. Questions like 'What have you done in the past year to improve your performance in the GCB?', 'What do you think of your opponent, Jill?', and 'Who would you like a shot at next?'" Lucca notices Max didn't give any answers to his questions. "Well, how did Squall respond?" Max sweatdropped. "Actually, he didn't answer any of those." Brock and Lucca both fall out of their seats. "But he did answer one of my questions: 'Why did you not use your Lion Heart Limit Break?' He simply answered, 'Because I didn't want her to get killed.' And that's when he entered the locker rooms." Lucca climbs back up into her chair. She readjusts her glasses before she says, "Thanks for an insightful interview, Max. How about an update on the injured fighters?" Max shows much more pep as he reports on his next topic. "AiAi has made a full physical recovery and has been sent on his way home. Psychologists are worried about the mental scarring the little guy has suffered, though. Tidus is also doing well. He'll stick around to support his team and to cheer on squadmates Yuna and Auron. Ganondorf threatened to feed me to the local Sheegoths, and Magus also refused to comment. All traces of Sam Fisher vanished shortly after his defeat; he is a Splinter Cell after all, and Jill has been taken to the Infirmary, located in the Phendrena Labs." "Is that place safe?!" Brock asked, worried over a potential girlfriend. (Yeah, right.) Max mulls it over for a moment before he responds, "It should be, as long as the Pirate doctors don't try to give her Phazon." Lucca winces at the thought. "And thanks for the injury report, Max. Before we let you go, give us some thoughts about our upcoming battle, featuring a cat-like alien who also wields an unorthodox combat wrench and has a lot of guns." Max chuckles before he says, "Ratchet's OmniWrench 9000 is a nice weapon with boomerang capabilities and high magnetism, but it just doesn't compare to this beauty." Max pats the place on his belt holding his Legend wrench. "As for the match, Ratchet should have the advantage with his wrench and all of the heat he's packing, but Luigi is a Mario brother, so we'll just have to wait and see." "Thanks a lot, Max!" Brock tells him as the kid leaves the announcers desk. The theme to Luigi's Mansion plays as the plumber in green enters the stadium with a vacuum on his back. "Here comes the Mario brother that always seems to be overshadowed, known as the Lean, Green Machine by his loyal fans. Luigi's most recent adventure involved sucking up some ghosts within his recently inherited mansion. Despite being constantly second fiddle, he hopes to prove to everyone that he is as good a fighter as Mario, if not better." Luigi leaps high up before landing softly in the ring. He checks his equipment as the theme to Novalis cues up. Lucca states, "Like myself, Ratchet was just someone that liked to tinker with things. That lasted until Clank dropped into his life. Since then, he's stockpiled an incredible amount of weaponry, all so he could prevent his planet from being destroyed by Chairman Drek." Ratchet is carrying only his wrench as he jumps onto the stone circle, while Clank stays at ringside. "We've already been notified that Ratchet may not use Clank in this battle, so that does limit Ratchet's evasiveness." "Players to your positions. Player 1, ready?" Luigi nods. "I'm-a ready." "Player 2, ready?" Ratchet swings his wrench in the air. "Oh, yeah! I'm ready!" "Combatants ready. Raise force barriers. Match 06, Luigi vs. Ratchet. 3, 2, 1... fight!" "Power's on; game's started! Ratchet takes the initiative and attempts a Comet Strike with his wrench, but Luigi uses his superior jumping ability for an easy dodge. Now Ratchet takes out his Blaster, and Luigi flees from the energy blast onslaught." Lucca adds, "It's a shame that he suffers from a lack of confidence, something that his brother always has in abundance. Ratchet switches to his Glove of Doom! He launches a pod that subsequently releases four tiny robots. Don't be fooled by their cuteness or their size. When these guys make a run for you, they pack a wallop!" "Luigi won't be able to outrun them, so he switches on the vacuum. The plumber cleans up the crawlers and shoots them, one by one, right back at Ratchet, who does a series of acrobatic moves to avoid the blasts. Ratchet switches weapons again, this time to the Devastator! The feline is shooting out those huge rounds as he fast as he can, but Luigi still refuses to get hit. His dodges bring him closer and closer to Ratchet... until the cat gets floored with a Luigi Tornado! The Devastator was thrown out of the ring during that move, but Ratchet still has plenty of gadgets left." Lucca's eyes widen as she shouts, "And the RYNO is out! This could be the end for the plumber, as Ratchet fires off a salvo of missiles. Luigi panics before jumping up and shooting himself behind Ratchet with the Green Missile. Ratchet is simply stunned by the move as the missiles start to track back. And Luigi has grabbed Ratchet, putting him into an Airplane Swing, right into the RYNO missiles!" Everyone in the arena witnesses the huge explosion that takes place before Ratchet, with smoke trailing him, falls back into the ring. There was a brief silence before Ref-Bot floats over and starts counting. Clank climbs up and moves as fast as he can to his fallen friend. He arrives just as the referee reaches ten. "Winner: Luigi." Clank ignores the other robot as he tries to get his friend to wake up. "Ratchet! Ratchet, no! You've survived more than this. Come on, get up!" Clank reaches into Ratchet's pocket, hoping to find something that could help. His green eyes brighten as he brings out the Tesla Claw. Clank gives his buddy a good jolt, which results in Ratchet coughing up smoke. "Ratchet, you're alive!" The cat smiles back weakly as the crowd erupts into cheers. Luigi also applauds his opponent as the Pirate medics come in to take Ratchet out on a stretcher. "Hey, Clank." "What is it, Ratchet?" Ratchet mouths the words, "Plumber's crack," causing Clank to burst out laughing as the two are escorted to the Infirmary. Lucca breathes a deep sigh of relief. "I hope we don't have to see something like that again." "Me too, but these fighters know the risks that come with all-out fights like this. We've already seen numerous serious injuries happen, but this hopefully won't become a trend. Tournament-wise, Luigi advances to face Squall, and up next is an odd battle between an android and a bandicoot. We'll be right back." Next Entry Back |
