GCB Fanfics: Vs. Mode

Vs. Mode - Tidus vs. Ganondorf

"Welcome back to Vs. Mode! The ring has been fixed, and it's all thanks to Lucca!"

Lucca waves her hand in embarrassment. "It was nothing, really. All I needed to do was build a reverse quake machine and use it on the ring. It was back together within seconds."

"You are a genius," Brock compliments.

"Well, I did create the Time Key and the Wondershot, so yeah, I am a genius! Ohohohohoho!" Brock scoots his chair a couple inches away from the laughing girl. "Now that we have a ring, let's begin our third match!" The theme to Final Fantasy X plays as Tidus enters with Yuna to a mixed crowd. Fans are shown holding both "Final is Forever" and "Go Home Crying Meg Ryan!". "Tidus is the leader of the tenth squad of Double-F. Both a blitzball player and a hero, Tidus hopes to have a better showing than last year's second round loss to Sonic."

Tidus hops into the ring as the Hyrule Overworld Theme plays, announcing the arrival of Ganondorf with Link and Zelda following him. The Great King of Evil also receives a mixed response from the spectators. "Ganondorf has tried to take over Hyrule, but he is always stopped by Link. He's a heavy magic user, but he's also not afraid to mix it up with his twin swords." Ganondorf floats over to his starting position.

"What's your take on this match, Brock?"

"My gut feeling is that this one is too close to call. Both fighters are incredibly strong and motivated to do well."

"Players, to your positions. Player 1, ready?"

Tidus brandishes his Caladbolg. "Ready!"

"Player 2, ready?"

Ganondorf holds his twin swords. "Ready."

"Combatants ready. Raise force barriers."

"For all the spells that are going to fly, we're going to need the barriers for this match," Lucca says.

"Match 03, Tidus vs. Ganondorf. 3, 2, 1... fight!"

"Power's on; game's started! Tidus tries to charge forward for a surprise attack, but Ganondorf is ready for it. The wizard blocks with one sword and swipes with the other, but the boy jumps back to dodge. Tidus looks like he's prepared to cast the first spell of the tournament."

"And it's a doozy: Thundaga! Ganondorf reels from the massive electric attack. Tidus isn't done as he casts another potent spell: Blizzaga! I can't imagine how that sorcerer can take this kind of abuse."

"Ganondorf is ready to fight back as he vanishes from sight and instantly reappears next to Tidus, giving the boy a double slash in the process! The wizard puts away one of his swords so that he can form a ball of energy in his hand and fling it at Tidus!"

"Tidus swings the Caladbolg to bat the ball back, and Ganondorf does the same. Back and forth the ball goes; it's like a deadly game of tennis."

"Over at ringside, Link is just shaking his head. He's seen this before, and he looks baffled that his teammate would even use such an easily countered attack. That energy ball is growing with each hit, and it's now almost as big as both of the fighters! Who's gonna be in a world of hurt when that thing hits him?"

"Ganondorf draws his second sword and whacks the ball with both of his weapons! That extra slash sent the ball hurtling into Tidus before he could swing! Ouch, Tidus is down, and the Ref-Bot comes over to start the count. What an amazing match! 6, 7, 8-"

"Hold it!" Lucca interrupts. "Tidus is up, and he has that look in his eyes! Double-F members have a knack for comebacks. Smack them around enough, and they will respond with a vengeance. Limit Breaks, Overdrives, or whatever you call them, they are what make Double-F one of the most dangerous teams of fighters in the tournament. And there it is, Blitz Ace! Ganondorf's swords go flying before being stopped by the force barriers."

"He is really going to feel that in the morning. Tidus finishes his Overdrive, letting Ganondorf crumple to the floor! This one might be over, but you never know. The count is at 5, 6, 7... No, Ganondorf is getting up! Unbelievable! While that's happening, it looks like Link is yelling at Ref-Bot for some reason, and the referee floats over to chew him out."

"Oh, come on! Ref, look behind you!" Lucca shouts to no avail. "Tidus had looked over to see what was going on, but Ganondorf blindsided him with a Gerudo Dragon, followed by a Dark Dive, and ended with a Wizard's Foot!"

"That's a devastating three-hit combination. Loud boos rain from the stands from the Square fans, who are not at all happy with this turn of events. Ref-Bot finally turns around to continue officiating the match, but it looks like it's just about over. Ganondorf picks up Tidus and begins to wind up for his finisher, the Warlock Punch!"

"With a loud yell and a fist full of dark purple energy, the King of Evil unloads on Tidus, rocketing him back into the force barrier, where he falls to the turf with a soft thud. Tidus needs to get back into the ring within ten seconds, or else he's disqualified, but I don't think he'll be even getting up."

Lucca sighs. "Indeed, as Yuna runs over to check his condition, Ganondorf plays to the crowd, who boo him in response."

"Winner: Ganondorf"

"And with Link's help, Ganondorf advances. What's this? Link has hopped into the ring, and Zelda is walking this way!" Brock begins to smile broadly at the elegant princess of Hyrule.

"Hello Brock, Lucca. Would either of you be so kind as to lend me a microphone?"

"Sure thing, your highness!" Brock offers with no hesitation, while Lucca mutters to herself about why she never gets that sort of reaction.

Zelda walks into the ring and gives the mike to Link. "Listen up, everyone! You've already witnessed us win our first two battles, and I'm sure we'll win our third as well. Fox, you're my next stepping stone back to the title, and I am going to crush you. With the Triforces of Courage, Power, and Wisdom on our side, we are unstoppable! So, to everyone who thinks they can beat us, bring it on! Samus, Cloud, Mario, if you're listening, you'll have your turn with me soon enough. Together, the three of us make the ultimate team. We are Tri-Force!" The trio leaves to boos and cheers as Brock and Lucca try to figure out what just happened.

"You heard it here first! Link has just called out all comers and singled out his probable late-round opponents. Is it incredible confidence or just plain foolishness? Meanwhile, it looks like AiAi will have a roommate as we take a break to get Brock another microphone. Next is our final match of the first day of competition: Sam Fisher against Magus in a special Blackout match! We'll be right back!"
