Tryout Fic 8: VillageIt would be a while before the tournament would begin, so all the characters went their separate ways for training. Some went sparring, others were celebrating, and still others were just having a grand ol’ time. But some characters were not seen much. Alucard had not been seen since he got to the Stadium, but he always preferred to hang out alone and in the shadows, so no one really noticed. Samus however, while sitting down to think under the shadow of a big tree, couldn’t help but wonder. “I wonder where Sonic is?” Indeed, Sonic had remained quiet this time around, which was very unlike him. Last year he would run around and make jokes about the other combatants, and the others thought he was full of himself. But the hedgehog came in this year with a different attitude. “Can’t worry about everyone else. Gotta keep moving! No one’s standing in my way!” Sonic ran through a field of grass, the speed of his feet pushing the grass on its side and breaking some of the weaker shoots. The blue blur was flat out steamed after his loss to Cloud last year, and since devoted himself to training. He began honing all of his skills, from all of his attacks, to his evasion, and his speed. Once when Dr. Robotnik attempted to bring destruction to Station Square with his revamped Egg Viper, Sonic was able to defeat it in 20 seconds flat. Sonic zoomed right by Tails, and knocked him on his side. “Hey Sonic, watch where you’re going!” Sonic put the brakes on and slid to a stop. The ground shot up at least 20 degrees in temperature. “Sorry Tails, still training. I’m not gonna let anyone beat me this year!” Sonic retied his shoelaces, which were coming loose. “You think I stand a chance this year Sonic?” Tails had taken two harsh first-round exits, and didn’t want to make it three. “Of course you do Tails, just keep yourself in good physical strength. Or even get working on some battle gadgets. You’re good at that.” Tails looked out on the horizon to see a tree a few miles away. Since the tree looked big despite its distance, Tails reasoned it must be nearly 400 ft. in height or more. “Hey Sonic, how about a race to that tree out over there?” Tails pointed in the direction of the tall tree. Sonic looked out into the distance and saw the tree. Then he wondered why Tails would want to race him on such a far distance, as Sonic could easily run the distance to the tree while leaving Tails in the dust. But he brushed that thought off. “Ok Tails, I’m game. Let’s race!” Sonic stretched his arms and got ready to race. Tails adjusted his shoes, and flipped a switch on the back of them. “Ready...” said Sonic. Sonic and Tails bent down and gripped the ground. “Set...” Tails concentrated on his target and smirked. “GO!” Sonic dashed right out from the starting line and got the early lead on Tails. Tails wasn’t discouraged, and ran after him. Suddenly Tails’s shoes glowed purple. In the next instant, Tails was propelled forward at an immense speed. He used this speed to catch up with Sonic, and then run right by him. “Whoa! Tails, is that you!?” Sonic was in utter shock to see him go so fast. Sonic ran up alongside of Tails as they reached the 1 mile mark. “Woohoo! I’m going so fast!” said an exhilarated Tails. Then he jumped into the air and flew ahead of Sonic, again at high speeds. Sonic tried desperately to keep up with Tails, as he started running even faster, just to keep a good look at Tails as he passed the 2 mile mark. Suddenly Tails’s shoes began to glow red. Then they detached from his feet in a burst of flame. Tails yelped in pain and crashed into the ground. Sonic rushed up to Tails. “Tails, Tails! Are you ok?” Tails slowly got up. “I think I’m ok.” He got up on his feet, and then gritted his teeth in pain as his feet touched the ground. “You don’t look so good Tails. We better get you some help!” “I don’t think I’ll be able to walk all the way to the infirmary”, said Tails amidst burns on his feet. “You can fly there then”, Sonic suggested. “I’ll follow you in case it gets worse.” Tails flew off to the infirmary and Sonic sped off with him. “So Tails, what was that you did to your shoes?” “I coated my shoes with energy I extracted from this Chaos Emerald I found.” Tails took the red Chaos Emerald out to show Sonic. “It was supposed to dramatically reduce the friction on my feet so I could run and fly faster, but it ended up overheating.” “Tails, where did you find that Chaos Emerald?” “I found it stuck inside a tree. I don’t know what it’s doing all the way out here.” “Well, I bet there are more emeralds around here. We’d better look for them before they fall into the wrong hands!” They reached the infirmary, and Tails checked in. “Come on! Is that all you got?” Knuckles put up his fists and blocked the punches of his opponent. “Hmph. There’s more where that came from.” Shadow went for Knuckles’s head with a punch, but Knuckles blocked this one as well. Knuckles bent down and attempted to kick Shadow in the shin, but Shadow jumped out of the way. Shadow charged up a Spin Dash and attempted to ram Knuckles. The echidna jumped out of the way and shot a fireball with his Fire Dunk ability at Shadow. Shadow was nailed right in the face. “Give it up Shadow, you’re pathetic.” Knuckles chuckled. Shadow got up and went for a homing attack. Knuckles attempted to dodge but Shadow got Knuckles in the legs and he dropped to the ground. “Me pathetic? I don’t think so...” Knuckles ran straight at Shadow and went for an uppercut, but Shadow rolled out of the way. Shadow tried to slide under Knuckles, but he jumped over him. Knuckles then tried to stomp on Shadow’s face, but Shadow rolled out of the way, grabbed Knuckles’s left leg, and threw him on his back. Knuckles got up and punched at Shadow’s legs, but Shadow jumped backwards. He took out his Chaos Emerald, left it in his hand for a second, and then put it back. “Chaos Spear!” A yellow blast of light shaped in an arrow went straight for Knuckles. Knux however was not worried, and put his hand out. “Take this!” Knuckles shot out a similar yellow arrow from his hand, the Thunder Arrow. The two blasts collided, and caused a massive explosion. The grass in the area was scorched and burned right off the face of the planet from the collision. Shadow fell to the ground, banged up and burned slightly from the explosion, but Knuckles was nowhere to be seen. “What...where’d he go?” Before he could think any longer, Knuckles came out from underground and hit Shadow hard with an uppercut. Shadow flew up and landed on the ground head first. “Had enough?” Shadow slowly got up in pain. “You could never bring me down.” Shadow dashed straight at Knuckles, but Knuckles jumped over him. Knuckles ran at Shadow and began to punch wildly, but Shadow sidestepped and stuck out his foot. Knuckles tripped and fell to the ground. Shadow jumped up and used his Homing Attack in an attempt to finish it. But Knuckles got his feet up and bashed Shadow backwards in one quick kicking motion. Shadow rolled out of the way, again picked up his blue Chaos Emerald, and then put it back. “Chaos Tornado!” The same yellow energy that had formed into the Chaos Arrow now became a giant tornado and sped off towards Knuckles. Knuckles tried to glide away from the tornado, but he was sucked in and took major damage. “It’s all over now. Victory is mine.” Suddenly the tornado dissipated and Knuckles was dropped to the ground. He walked up slowly to Shadow and major pain, and took out the Master Emerald! “What do you think you’re gonna do with that? Bash me over the head with it?” Shadow laughed mockingly. Knuckles pointed the top of the Master Emerald to Shadow. Its green exterior shined brightly in the sun, and it started to glow yellow. “What is...uh oh...” Shadow realized what was about to happen. The Master Emerald shot out a gigantic beam of the yellow tornado Shadow had used on Knuckles. Knuckles had managed to pull out the Master Emerald to absorb the tornado blow. Now he was turning the tables on Shadow. Shadow quickly tried to jump away from the blast, but it was too big, and Shadow was knocked to the ground. Shadow lay on the ground, in major pain, and mad for leaving himself open to such an attack. “Guess that’s game”, Knuckles stated as he went up to Shadow. He offered his hand to Shadow and helped him up. “Ack! Where’s that Chaos Emerald??” Shadow suddenly went into a panic. Shadow turned around to find the Chaos Emerald shining out in the horizon. He ran out there, and Knuckles followed. When they got there, a raccoon picked up the Chaos Emerald with his hook. “Now this will be a worth a lot on the market!” Sly said as he ran off with his find. “Get back here with my emerald!” Shadow screamed as he followed Sly. If anyone gets a hold of those emeralds we could be in major trouble, Knuckles thought to himself. He quickly followed Shadow as the sun began to set. Next Entry Back |
