Tryout Fic 5: Village


Something sinister was in the air. There was a certain worry on most the faces of the contestants. A giant crowd circled around a fallen Mario. There was a grin on Crono’s face, the contestants were somehow relieved that it seemed the great Mario had left the tournament before it had began. Squall was leaning against a wall as he saw a blur of green flash by and jump over the crowd into the middle. It was Luigi there to check on Mario. “Hey brAther.” Luigi said trying to comfort an injured Mario. “Here, something I got from Cloud. He calls it a potion.” Luigi gave the potion to Mario and everyone jumped back in suspense when Mario jumped up with a loud “MA MA MIA!”

The crowd was still settling down as Mario and Luigi left. Sora ran into them in a long corridor. “MARIO!” Sora exclaimed as he saw the plumber. “I heard something horrible had happened.”
“That Reminds me. I have to find that Bowser. He has the princess.”
“The princess is no where near here.” Mario had a look of shock on his face.

A dark figure is laying in an even darker chamber. “Let there be light.” A strange voice said. Fire came out of his hand and on to the candlestick. The hand was revealed as Sephiroth’s.
“What are you doing here?” said the man laying on the bed.
“You should know the answer to that question Liquid.”
“Should I old man? I heard you tried another one today.”
“The plumber isn’t as weak as he looks.”
“I know you. You achieved you goal didn’t you. He would still be unconscious if you didn’t. I am wondering what you wanted.”
“This.” The room lights up and Liquid Snake covers his eyes.
“What is that?”
“Well the foolish plumber calls it a star. It is invincibility in it’s purest form. If I consentrate it the right way… I can create a Materia that has the power of invincibity. With it I cannot be beaten. Whenever I am close to my death I use it and I will be untouchable.”
“I didn’t know you were resorting to cheap trickery there days Sephiroth.” Auron was just outside the doorway. Sephiroth had often had plans like this but Auron was always the voice of reason. He always made sure Sephiroth had just a shred of honor in him.
“I didn’t know you resorted to eves dropping Auron.”
“I heard the word invincible and I knew it was you.”
“How long have we been friends Auron.” Sephiroth started to Smile.
“Since the beginning old friend. I have known you to be irrational several times this being one of them. Now only did you steal that star you are giving yourself an unfair advantage. If you won it wouldn’t prove anything, besides your lack of honor.”
“You don’t get it do you. I came so close to claiming victory and it felt so good. Then I was cheated by that failure. That failed experiment beat me. I refuse to be cheated this time. Now if you will excuse me… I have to go see a very angry turtle.”

“So Liquid, whats new?” Auron asked as Sephiroth walked away.
“Still seeing things. We are all possessed by one demon or another, the trouble is I have two people’s demons.”
“Big Boss?”
“No. You are too naďve to figure it out… so I just won’t tell you.”
“Your choice. I have to go look after a friend.”
“Sephiroth knows you will follow him. He thinks he can read you like all the rest of his enemies. Even though you are a friend.”
“Not to him when I disagree with his plans.”
“Just be careful. His power is only matched by his insanity. He could try to harm you.”
“I am curious. Was he manipulating Mario?”
“It isn’t my place to tell you.”
“I see.” Auron turns around and leaves the room. “Good luck, in the tournament.”

The Next Day…

All 64 of the contests sit before a stage. A woman dressed in black walks to the center podium. “For those who don’t know me, I am Paine, and I will be the supervisor of this great tournament. As for the battles this year… everyday there will be a drawing. Whatever pair is picked out of the drawing is the pair that will fight that day. We will continue this until one round is over. As for the battles this year, you will be reviewed by a select group of judges as you battle. You will be judged on style and power. If there is an obvious winner there will be no dispute. However in the close matches the winner will be decided by the judges.” Her hand pulled down a sheet over an machine that resembled an orb with a bunch of ping-pong balls in it. “This will decide the match order we call it CjacC+.” She starts the machine and a ball pops out. “The first match will be…


Battle Fic: Sephiroth vs Sly Cooper


“Sephiroth vs. Sly Cooper” Paine exclaimed. “Please proceed to the battle arena.” Sly Cooper was new to this tournament. He seems surprisingly smug though for being a quote “newbie.” He was probably the best thief known to the world, “the devious thevious raccoon,” he was called. As Sly was on his way to the battle arena he caught the eyes of the nonchalant Squall. Auron and Squall had become good friends. Auron told Squall all about the star and Sephiroth’s plan. As nonchalant as Squall is he couldn’t stand and watch Sephiroth give himself the tournament. Squall had a plan. He pulled Sly Cooper away from the path and whispered in his ear. He handed him a ring and Sly Cooper kept walking. There are a few things that must be known about Sly. First and foremost he won’t just steal anything he needs a just cause and even with the cause that’s not enough. He needs more assurance. However I can assure you that Sly Cooper was the most sneaky living organism alive. “Please proceed to the battle arena all contestants for the inaugural battle of this year.” Well that was going to make Sly Cooper’s job ten times more difficult. He had to steal a bright and shiny star without anyone seeing it. However difficulty had never stopped Sly before; Sly began to smirk.

Meanwhile in the battle arena…

“Looks like Sly Cooper won’t show up. He is smarter than I thought.” Liquid Snake said with a snicker. “You won’t need that Materia against this oversized raccoon.”
“Something is hindering him. I have the feeling Auron has something to do with this.” Sephiroth said.
“How could I?” Auron said with just a dash of conceit. “I am right here.”
“What have you told him?” Sephiroth asked.
“Nothing. It wasn’t Sly’s business to know.” Auron replied.
“I sense you have told him.”
“Do not accuse me on your senses my friend. If I tell you I have not told him then I have not told him.”
“Well something is foul and I must find out what.”
“Perhaps it is your own dishonor.”
“That is enough Auron. Don’t you see how much Sephiroth wants this? Why do you object so much? Maybe because it mean you can win either.” Liquid prodded at Auron.
“That has nothing to do with it.”
“Sure Auron, sure.”
“Well it looks like my opponent wont sho—“ Just then Sly Cooper slid down a rope on his cane then flips onto the scene.
“SLY! I thought you would never make it!” Sora yelled at Sly.
“You’re hurting my ears Sora.” Sly said covering his ears.
“Oh sorry I got a little excited.”
“Do me a favor.”
“Okay.”
“Next time… don’t.”
“That was mean.”
“Sorry I am a little frustrated. The pressure is on me for this battle and no one thinks I can beat the runner-up last year. It seems almost impossible.”
“If I have learned anything from you Sly.” Knuckles said interrupting. “It is that for you anything is possible. You might turn a few heads in this battle.”
“Let’s get on with it you baffoon.” Liquid said to Sly.
“Who you calling bafoon? I am not the crazy one who hears voices.” Sly jokes around with Liquid.
“No you’re the weak one who thinks that you can beat the mighty Sephiroth when it is obvious that you have no chance. You’re a fool.”
“Why you little—“ Knuckles started.
“Little I am not the small one you little hedgehog wanna be.” Liquid said snickering.
“I am gonna hit you so hard—“ Knuckles started again.
“That is enough.” Auron interrupted. “We are here for a battle tournament. Not a threat contest.”
“He’s right guys, let’s just get on with it.” Sly said listening to Auron’s reasoning.
“I cannot contest to that.” Sephiroth said smiling.
“Would everyone but Sly Cooper and Sephiroth get off the battle floor so we can begin the match.” Paine said over the intercom. Fujin steps onto the battle floor and walks into the middle of the two. Sephiroth had wondered what she had been doing here.
“When I ring this gong you will begin the battle. Sly Cooper are you ready?” Fujin said and Sly nodded. “and runner-up Sephiroth are you ready?” Sephiroth nodded. Fujin rings the gong. “BEGIN!” she screams as she runs off the battle floor.

Sephiroth wants to end it quickly so he tries to use a horizontal sword swing. Sly jumps onto his sword then jumps behind him and hits him with the cane in the back of the head, in midair. Sephiroth sees that he is no match for Sly’s agility. “Aero 2!” Sephiroth exclaims and Sly is sent into the air. Then Sephiroth uses it on himself and Sly Cooper loses the upward propultion seconds be for Sephiroth does and starts on his way down. Sephiroth is coming down right after him with his sword extended. It seemed like it was going to be a short match. Sly Cooper took of his hat and rolled away leaving Sephiroth’s sword with nothing but a hat. Not just a normal hat. One of Sly’s hat bombs and it blew up right in Sephiroths face and he flew back. “You are getting on my nerves you filthy creature. It is time you learned a lesson in PAIN! ULTIMA!” A great blast ensued and there was a hole even in the battle floor. It would seem Sly had been incinerated. However what Sephiroth hit was a decoy. Sly saw his opportunity he stopped time and grabbed the Star and placed it in his pocket. Sly was about to slash Sephiroth with the hook part of his cane when Sephiroth caught his cane spun him around and threw him up into the air. He dropped his cane and was left unarmed. He threw a hat at Sephiroth in midair and regain his balance and landed safely on the ground. Sephiroth avoided the hat bomb. “Apperantly it isn’t just cats who always land on their feet.” Sly smirked. Sephiroth used his sword once again and tried to slash Sly vertically this time but Sly rolled to the left and gave Sephiroth a roundhouse kick he wouldn’t soon forget. He flipped back and saw his cane and picked it up. Now he could block Sephiroth’s sword attacks. They entered as sword-like duel. Sephiroth finally tried to stab but Sly hooked his cane to Sephiroth’s sword swung around it and kicked him in the face. Sephiroth was infuriated. “Sin Harvest!” Sephiroth yelled. Sly was blew back and torn up completely. He was almost immediately destroyed but managed to avoid just a little of the attack. He lay there on the ground and struggled until he could finally get up. “You just don’t know when to quit do you Cooper!”
“I guess not. Unlike you I know when I am defeated.”
“Hahahahahahahahaha, you defeat me. You must be joking.” Just then Sly took up his cane slowed down time and slashed Sephiroth in the chest. Sephiroth started to stumble back then exclaimed, “Cure2!” Green light came all around him and the blood started to disappear.
“That’s a nice trick.”
“So is this one. Slow!” Sly could feel his body become heavier. It became so much harder for him to move. “Now to finish you… METEOR2!”
“Oh boy.” Meteors started to break through the roof of the building and fall towards the ground. As Sly as trying to dodge them Sephiroth was swinging his sword at him Sly took off his hat and put it on Sephiroth’s sword and slid it all the way down. He jumped back waiting for the explosion when his leg was crushed by a meteor, and the hat exploded send Sephiroth back and knocked out.
“BOTH CONTESTANTS ARE UNABLE TO BATTLE THE MATCH IS OVER!” Fujin yelled as she signaled the moogles to come in and heal them both. “The judges will decide the winner of this bout. You will all be told by Paine tommarrow when the next match is decided.

The next day…

All 64 contestants were once again in the room, most of them gossiping about that epic battle that had taken place. Sly was left limping and Sephiroth with some burns that wouldn’t soon disappear. It wasn’t until the next day that he noticed that the star was missing. He knew then what he had to do…
“I am sure you are all wondering the outcome of the battle yesterday. I am proud to announce that the winner is…"
