Tryout Fic 3: Village

Among some of the veterans sat Jill Valentine, looking jumpy and nervous, she had been here three times, she had left here there times, why did this place always feel weird to her? Why did she get a feeling in her gut whenever she had to sit and wait for the contest to start? She started to wonder why, when an idea came to her, it was because death was allowed, and not one of the contestants wanted to die in this contest. She had come face to face with death before, she has seen ungodly things in Raccoon, but when it came down to it, she wasn't ready to die, she was still young and agile. She sighed, this was all just fun and games, it was all just fun and games she thought, there was no reason to compare this paradise to Raccoon, that was just moronic, this was a peaceful place. Jill had finished thinking to herself, she was ready to start looking for someone else to talk to, as everyone else seemed to be living it up, why couldn't she?

She thought for a minute, who to talk to? She didn't want to talk to Duke, Max and Tommy were engaged in a poker game, and another figure, Luca Blight, was laughing it up for no reason, he didn't seem like the one to stop and talk to her. She looked around for anyone else, but everyone else was either not here, or busy doing other things, it really was no fair, as she just wanted to have fun to. Everything she did was always serious, escaping Raccoon, hunting for Chris, she never really got a chance to sit back and relax from all the bio weapons and read a book. Would it be so bad if she just went away and stopped fighting Umbrella, stop coming to these tournaments and live a normal life, the way a middle-aged woman should?

Jill shook away these questions, even if she did, now was not the time, she had to get ready for her match, she had to be alert against Ryu, she had to be fully aware of her surroundings, she had to be in perfect control of the match to win. Zombies were on thing, but contestants here are faster, stronger, and more in touch with themselves then zombies, Squall taught her that the hard way last year, humiliating her in the first round. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jill had been caught in her thoughts for nearly an hour, the bright sun was burning down on her, and she needed to get away from it. Everyone else had gone into the mansion to unpack, it was about time for her to go as well. Jill grabbed her bag and walked over the it, she let her hair blow in the slow breeze that came through, this really was a utopia, it was meant for some to feel happy... before 63 of them would feel pain worse then hell. Jill thought about this, but stopped when she came to the door, she hated mansions, ever since that one mission that turned everything around for her. Now, whenever she went near one, she felt uneasy, like she knew something was going to get her, something was going to strike her when her guard was down, but this year was different, she wasn't going to let her guard down.

Jill walked in and was greeted by no one, it was almost silent in the main hall, it seemed that no bellmen were here to help her, no one host to greet her, just the slight sound or Mario slurping down spaghetti. It seemed that this year rooms were based of your ranking last year, and if you are new, first come first serve. Jill carried her bag up to her room, #28, not as great as last years, but it would suite here well. For if she couldn't concentrate, she wouldn't be here so much longer.

Opening the door slowly, Jill looked at her quarters, it wasn't to bad, it came with a mirror, but it just didn't feel as comfortable as last year. This year she was facing a ninja, she hadn't seen one of them since Strider, but he was gone, no one knew what happened to him after his appearance in the tournament. Everything about this contest was changing, a lot of people were gone, some had come back after missing last year, how did she even know the rules would be the same as last time? She didn't, everyone, new comer or not, seemed to be blind about this year, this she thought, was why she felt uneasy. It was because everything here was different each second, one year it could be champion fighting new comer in the first round, or maybe it would be him fighting second place, these things could change the out come. It was in none of their control, they were blind people getting guided here, they could only fight when they were told to, that was their only free will choice, to fight all out or not, everything else was out of their control.

This is what makes this the best, and the worst tournament ever, chance and luck did nothing, it was the tournament head that had planned everything, they were pawns in his tournament, they had reason to be here but to fight, what could truly be gained from winning this? Your name in lights? Money? None of this would really matter when they returned to their own world, it wouldn't only matter in this world, and this world was no more then a savage world where fighting and killing is allowed for the sake of entertainment, was that really what she wanted? If it was, then was the Jill Valentine she is the Jill Valentine that she really wanted to be? Did she really want to be a person thats soul purpose was to fight to gain popularity? She sighed, this is why she didn't like being alone with her thoughts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jill had finished unpacking, she was already to go "live it up" at the cafeteria when a knock came at her door, as she went to open it up, she prayed it wasn't Duke Nukem, that perverted freak had better stay away from her this year, or else he wasn't making it to his match. She turned the knob slowly, then looked through the crack, it was a child.. Sora, why was he here?

"Excuse me..." Sora began, " But, I came with a woman, Aeris, but I lost her when I came into this world, have you seen her"? Jill looked down at the kid, he looked almost cute as in a baby, then she told him, "I don't know where she is", Jill said to him.

"Ok," Sora said sadly, "thank you for your time". Jill watched him walk off, Aeris was a tough competitor, she wouldn't just "get lost" on the way into this world, she didn't have the heart to tell him that she was probably not invited to come here this year, but she wondered why, she had come in the sweet sixteen every time, maybe it was just some kind of miscalculation or something. Jill decided now is a great time to go eat, she was so hungry she could eat human.... actually, never mind that she said, laughing to herself at herself.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As she walked into the cafeteria, she saw the huge line, almost everyone was in line to get something to eat, it was like a huge feeding frenzy, and she would have to be the one that had to wait her turn and go after all the pigs were gone to enjoy a nice meal. She decided to get into line, it would only take a good, what, half and hour? This was going to be fun, waiting in line, hungry as she watched Bowser stuff three pieces of pie into his mouth at a time, a real fun night, huh? She adjusted her top, tapped her foot, and began to get angry, what was the bloody hold up? Why couldn't she just go down to the cafeteria, wait in a five person line, the eat a nice meal without any sickening sights?

She had been waiting for about half an hour until her turn came, she got herself a turkey sand which, and sat down by herself to eat, she didn't really know anyone here at the time, so it would just be rude to sit with them, that and she didn't feel like talking at the time, she was more of a lone-wolf then a giggling, gossiping girl. She took a bit of her sand which, and chewed on it, at least she knew the proper way to eat, as she glanced over at Bowser, who seemed to be choking on his pie, just like she had thought he would. Soon, the medics came and took Bowser to the infirmary, he would be fine, but maybe that would make eating with him a bit more bearable, again she laughed a bit at herself, and went back to eating.
