Rants/Analysis

Cloud is a sexually confused man. *spoilers*

Let's look at this rationally, people.

Just consider his unhealthy obsession with Sephiroth, even from his boyhood days. He looked up to Sephiroth, idealized him, and fell in love with the man. In one of his flashbacks he talked about long hidden feelings he couldn't let anyone know about. This makes perfect sense, I doubt the people of Nibelheim would be too tolerant of Cloud's homosexual leanings.

And just look at the two massive swords they both carry. Watching them fight with those two things is enough to make more homophobic men than I blush. Cloud's obviously compensating for his own inadequacy.

He spends his life stalking/trying to prove himself worthy of Sephiroth's love. Sephiroth rejects him because he's a wimp, and Cloud spends the next five years obsessing over everything that happened, and trying to pretend that he's someone Sephiroth could find himself worthy of.

As Cloud begans to grow aware of his connection to Sephiroth, his repressed feelings for Sephiroth warp into a narcisstic self love. He responds cooly to the advances of Tifa, despite her growing affection for him. He brushes off Aeris, and spends all his time dreaming about the macho swordsman that rejected him. He begins stalking Sephiroth.

After Sephiroth kills Aeris, Cloud hopes desparately that it was out of jealousy, that Sephiroth wanted him all to himself. They meet up for a reunion, and Cloud realizes the full extent of their connection. He proceeds to cheat his own party of the black materia, and give it to his friend and lover. The two reach their climax in a homoerotic cinema featuring Cloud and Sephiroth culminating their love.

But it doesn't work out, and Cloud's sexual frustration remains. Sephiroth dumps him after getting his materia fix, and Cloud mopes around, until Tifa snaps him out of it. Cloud still acts like a dead fish around her, not responding to any of her advances, and keeps stalking Sephiroth. It's all he knows how to do, after all.

Finally Sephiroth goes through a few bizarre changes, morphing into larger and larger forms, blah blah blah, and Cloud faces down shirtless Sephiroth, desecrating his flawless body. The bout of intense love making unfortunately kills Sephiroth.

With the breakup completed, Cloud has nothing else to live for, and meanders around as he tries to escape certain death. In the cinema in the future, we see that only Red XIII managed to have any kids. There are no little Cloud's running around, no humans to be seen that might be their descendants. All the girls were obsessed with Cloud, Cloud was obsessed with Sephiroth, Sephiroth was obsessed with Aeris. It's a vicious love triangle.

Let's face it, Cloud doesn't like Aeris, Tifa, or Yuffie. He's ambivalent about all of them. The closest he comes is his love/hate relationship with Barret, which is why their date makes perfect sense. Barret in his sailor outfit naturally.

In Kingdom Hearts, Cloud is a little more in tune with his sexuality, sporting more leather outfits. But basically, the whole plot revolves around his sexual frustration. Until he embraces his sexuality, we'll be doomed to more crummy sequels.

spends all his time dreaming about the macho swordsman

I thought you said he liked Sephiroth.

Point. Sephiroth is more effeminite than anything else. I was trying to express it from Cloud's point of view. He regards Sephiroth as his ideal of masculinity. An orgy with the 12 Sephiroth clones would be his ideal existance.
